The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Onécimo Alberton as auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Florianópolis, Brazil, transferring him from the office of bishop of Rio do Sul to the titular see of Dagno.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Onécimo Alberton was born on 16 February 1965 in Orleans, diocese of Tubarão, in the State of Santa Catarina. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina (UNISUL) in Tubarão-SC and in theology at the Instituto Teológico de Santa Catarina (ITESC) in Florianópolis-SC. He attended the course in psychopedagogy in Viamão-RS, obtaining a licentiate in spiritual theology from the Pontifical Institute of Spirituality “Teresianum” of Rome.
He was ordained a priest on 27 September 1992 for the diocese of Tubarão. With the dismemberment and creation of the diocese of Criciúma on 27 May 1998, he was incardinated in the new circumscription.
He has held the following offices: parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Natividade in Cocal do Sul-SC and of São Paulo Apóstolo in Criciúma-SC; rector of the Bom Pastor Seminary of Theology in Florianópolis-SC; parish vicar of São José in Criciúma-SC; president of diocesan Caritas; coordinator of presbyteral pastoral care.
On 17 December 2014 he was appointed bishop of Rio do Sul and received episcopal ordination on 22 February of the following year.
