Resignation and appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Coro, Venezuela

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Coro, Venezuela, presented by Archbishop Mariano José Parra Sandoval.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Victor Hugo Basabe of San Felipe, apostolic administrator sede plena of Barquisimeto, as metropolitan archbishop of Coro, Venezuela.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop Victor Hugo Basabe was born on 17 December 1961 in Bobures, diocese of El Vigía – San Carlos del Zulia. After graduating in jurisprudence and practicing the legal profession, he entered the Juan Pablo II Major Seminary of Barquisimeto. He subsequently attended the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum and the Pontifical Lateran University of Rome, obtaining a licentiate in canon law.

He was ordained a priest on 19 August 2000, and incardinated in the diocese of El Vigía – San Carlos del Zulia.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of the Cathedral of El Vigía; chancellor and moderator of the diocesan Curia; parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, San Pedro Apóstol, and Santa Bárbara; and undersecretary and secretary general of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference.

He was elected bishop of the diocese of San Felipe on 11 March 2016, receiving episcopal ordination the following 21 May. In addition, he was appointed apostolic administrator sede plena of the archdiocese of Barquisimeto and, from 20 March 2020 to the present, apostolic administrator sede vacante.

Within the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference, he is a member of the Episcopal Commission for management, planning, administration and legal matters.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Palencia, Spain

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Palencia, Spain, presented by Bishop Manuel Herrero Fernández, O.S.A.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Mikel Garciandía Goñi of the clergy of the archdiocese of Pamplona y Tudela, until now episcopal vicar, as bishop of Palencia, Spain.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Mikel Garciandía Goñi was born on 21 March 1964 in Etxarri Aranatz, province of Navarra and archdiocese of Pamplona y Tudela. After his formation in pedagogy, he carried out his ecclesiastical studies in the seminary of Pamplona and was ordained a priest on 25 June 1995. He obtained a licentiate and doctorate in fundamental theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He has held the following offices: formator in the San Miguel Arcángel Major Seminary; professor of theology in the Centro Superior de Estudios Teológicos del Seminario and of the Instituto de Ciencias Religiosas; head of vocational pastoral care; episcopal vicar for vocations for the zone of Mendialde and for pastoral care in the Basque language (since 2015); collaborator in the Episcopal Commission for seminaries and universities of the Spanish Episcopal Conference. Since 2020 he has served as director of the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences.

 

Resignation and appointment of Santander, Spain

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Santander, Spain, presented by Bishop Manuel Sánchez Monge.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Arturo Pablo Ros Murgadas as bishop of Santander, Spain, transferring him from the titular see of Ursona and the office of auxiliary of Valencia.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Arturo Pablo Ros Murgadas was born on 10 June 1964 in Vinalesa, province and autonomous community of Valencia. After some work experience, he entered the major seminary of Valencia, where he studied philosophy and theology at the San Vicente Ferrer Faculty of Theology and obtained a bachelor’s degree in theology.

He was ordained a priest on 29 June 1993 in Valencia.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of La Asunción in Torrent (1993-1996); parish priest of San Vicente Ferrer and Nuestra Señora de la Buena Guía in Valencia (1996-2000); diocesan assistant of the Cursillos de Cristiandad (1996-2000); member of the Presbyteral Council (1998-2003); superior of the major seminary of Valencia (2000-2005); parish priest of Requena and episcopal vicar (2006-2016).

He was appointed titular bishop of Ursona and auxiliary of Valencia on 27 June 2016, receiving episcopal consecration the following 3 September.

Within the Spanish Episcopal Conference, he has been a member of the Episcopal Commission for the Lay Apostolate (2016-2000). He has served as chair of the Episcopal Under Commission for Childhood and Youth since 2020.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Sigüenza-Guadalajara, Spain

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Sigüenza-Guadalajara, Spain, presented by Bishop Atilano Vicente Rodríquez Martínez.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Julián Ruiz Martorell as bishop of Sigüenza-Guadalajara, Spain, transferring him from the sees of Huesca and Jaca.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Julián Ruiz Martorell was born on 19 January 1957 in Cuenca. He attended the seminary of Zaragoza, where he carried out his ecclesiastical studies.

He was ordained a priest in Zaragoza on 24 October 1981. He obtained a licentiate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University and a licentiate in sacred scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute.

He has held the following offices: associate of the parish of Santa Rafaela María de Porras (1988-1993); director of the Nuestra Señora del Pilar Higher Institute of Religious Sciences (1991-1995); chaplain of the religious Community of the Teresiano del Pilar College (1994-2010); professor of sacred scripture of the Regional Centre for Theological Studies of Aragón (1998-2005); director of the Zaragoza Centre of the San Agustín Higher Institute of Religious Sciences (1999-2005); delegate for worship and pastoral care of the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Pilar in Zaragoza (2007-2010) and vicar general of the archdiocese (2009-2010). He was appointed bishop of the diocese of Huesca and of Jaca, united in persona Episcopi, on 30 December 2010, receiving episcopal consecration on 5 March of the following year.

Since 2020 he has been a member of the Episcopal Commission for Evangelization, Catechesis and the Catechumenate.
