Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Detroit, U.S.A.
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Jeffrey M. Monforton of Steubenville as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Detroit, United States of America, assigning him the titular see of Centuria.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Jeffrey Marc Monforton was born on 5 May 1963 in Detroit, in the archdiocese of the same name. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, and in theology at the Pontifical North American College.
He was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Detroit on 25 June 1994.
After ordination, he first served as parish vicar of the National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak (1994-1996); personal secretary to Cardinal Adam J. Maida (1998-2005) and parish collaborator at Saint Paul on the Lake in Grosse Pointe Farms (1998-2002) and Saint Jane Frances de Chantal in Sterling Heights (2002-2005). He obtained a doctorate in spiritual theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, and was a faculty member of the Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit (2002-2005); parish priest of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux in Shelby Township (2005-2006); rector of the Sacred Heart Major Seminary (2006-2012); and parish priest of Saint Andrew in Rochester (2012).
He was appointed bishop of Steubenville on 3 July 2012, and was consecrated the following 10 September.
