Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Split-Makarska, Croatia

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Zdenko Križić, O.C.D., of Gospić-Senj, as metropolitan archbishop of Split-Makarska, Croatia.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Zdenko Križić, O.C.D., was born on 2 February 1953 vin Johovac, in the archdiocese of Vrhbosana. He studied philosophy with the Carmelite Fathers in Florence, and theology at the Pontifical Theological Faculty and Pontifical Institute of Spirituality Teresianum in Rome. He was ordained a priest on 26 June 1977 in Zagreb, for the Order of Carmelite Fathers.

He has held the following offices: prefect in the minor seminary of the Carmelite Fathers in Zagreb (1978-1984); first counsellor of the Commissioner, prior of Remete in Zagreb and visiting professor at the then-Institute of Christian Spirituality in Zagreb (1984-1990); prior of the Convent of Krk and master of novices (1997-2002); provincial vicar (1999-2002); provincial superior (2002-2003); vicar general of the Order (2003-2009); prior of the Convent of Krk and provincial counsellor (2009-2011); rector of the Community of the Teresianum International College in Rome (2011-2016).

On 4 April 2016 he was appointed bishop of Gospić-Senj, receiving episcopal ordination the following 25 May. Within the Bishops’ Conference of Croatia, he is a member of the Permanent Council and president of the Council for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life.

 

Appointment of bishop of Spiš, Slovakia

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend František Trstenský of the clergy of the diocese of Spiš, Slovakia, until now parish priest and dean in Kežmarok, as bishop of the same diocese.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. František Trstenský was born on 13 March 1973 in Trstená, in the diocese of Spiš. After completing his studies in philosophy and theology in the diocesan seminary of Spiš, he received priestly ordination on 21 June 1997 for the same diocese.

After ordination, he first served as parish vicar in Spišské Vlachy and Dolný Kubín, and then as a collaborator in the parish of Spišská Kapitula. He completed his biblical studies at the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum in Jerusalem and in the Pontifical Theological Academy of Krakow, where he was awarded a doctorate (2000-2006). He taught biblical subjects in the Theological Studium in Spišská Kapitula, and at the Katolícka Univerzita of Ružomberok. He was ecclesiastical censor in biblical subjects and pro-rector for External Reltaions of the same Katolícka Univerzita (2014-2000).

Since 12 June 2020 he has served as parish priest and dean in Kežmarok, and lecturer in sacred scripture at the Theological Institute in Spišské Podhradie. He is the author of publications and a regular collaborator with Radio Lumen and Lux Television.

 

Appointment of bishop of Osorno, Chile

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Carlos Alberto Godoy Labraña, until now titular of Pudenziana and auxiliary of Santiago de Chile, as bishop of Osorno, Chile.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Carlos Alberto Godoy Labraña was born in Santiago de Chile on 28 March 1969. He carried out his philosophical and theological studies at the Santiago Major Seminary and completed a master’s degree in psycho-spiritual accompaniment at the Universidad Alberto Hurtado in Santiago.

He received priestly ordination on 18 May 1996, and was incardinated in the archdiocese of Santiago de Chile.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, vice dean of Pudahuel Sur, parish priest of Cristo de Emaús, dean in Puente de Alto Sur, head of the Complaints Office in Santiago, spiritual director of the major seminary of Santiago, rector of the Shrine of La Inmaculada Concepción del Cerro San Cristóbal and episcopal vicar for pastoral care.

On 22 June 2021 he was appointed titular bishop of Pudenziana and auxiliary of Santiago de Chile, receiving episcopal ordination the following 14 August.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of San Juan de Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Tomás González González, until now vicar general of the archdiocese of San Juan de Puerto Rico, as auxiliary bishop of the same diocese, assigning him the titular see of Enera.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Tomás González González was born on 23 August 1968 in Saturce, Puerto Rico, and received priestly ordination on 6 August 2001 for the archdiocese of San Juan de Puerto Rico. He graduated in management from the Universidad de Puerto Rico and then in theology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico in Ponce.

He has held the following offices: vicar of the parish of San Luca Evangelista (2001-2002); member of the Council of Orders and Ministers (2005-2023); delegate to the Council of the Major Regional Seminary of San Juan de Puerto Rico (2003-2023); parish priest of San Luca Evangelista (2002-2015); spiritual director of the Cursillos de Cristiandad Movement (2012-2023); episcopal vicar of the vicariate of Rio Piedras-Trujillo Alto (2016-2023), and currently vicar general.
