The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Albi, France, presented by Archbishop Jean Legrez, O.P.
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Jean-Louis Balsa as archbishop of Albi, France, transferring him from the diocese of Viviers.
Curriculum vitae
Archbishop-elect Jean-Louis Balsa was born on 17 March 1957 in Nice. After completing his classical studies in Antibes, he was awarded a degree in philosophy from the University of Nice. He entered the University Seminary des Carmes in Paris, and completed his ecclesiastical studies at the Institut Catholique de Paris, obtaining a degree in theology and, subsequently, a diploma in religious anthropology from the Sorbonne Université of Paris.
He received priestly ordination on 9 September 1984 for the diocese of Nice.
He was elected bishop of Viviers on 22 May 2015, receiving episcopal ordination the following 12 September.
Within the Bishops’ Conference of France, he is a member of the Council for Interreligious Relations and the New Religious Movements.
