Erection of the metropolitan archdiocese of Osaka-Takamatsu, Japan, and appointment of first metropolitan archbishop
The Holy Father has erected the new metropolitan archdiocese of Osaka-Takamatsu, Japan, by incorporating the archdiocese of Osaka and the diocese of Takamatsu.
The Holy Father has appointed His Eminence Cardinal Thomas Aquino Manyo Maeda, until now archbishop of the archdiocese of Osaka, as first metropolitan archbishop of the new archdiocese of Osaka-Takamatsu.
Curriculum Vitae
His Eminence Thomas Aquino Manyo Maeda was born on 3 March 1949 in Tsuwasaki, Kami Goto, Prefecture of Nagasaki, in the archdiocese of the same name. After completing his studies at the Nanzan High School of Nagasaki, he entered the Saint Sulpice Major Seminary of Fukuoka.
He was ordained a priest on 19 March 1975 and incardinated in the archdiocese of Nagasaki.
On 13 June 2011 he was appointed bishop of the diocese of Hiroshima, and received episcopal consecration on the following 23 September. Since 2014 he has served as metropolitan archbishop of Osaka, and was created a cardinal on 28 June 2018, of the Title of San Pudenziana.
