Appointment of bishop of Punto Fijo, Venezuela
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Luis Enrique Rojas Ruiz as bishop of Punto Fijo, Venezuela, transferring him from the titular see of Unizibira and from the office of auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Mérida.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Luis Enrique Rojas Ruiz was born in Mérida on 31 August 1968. He carried out his philosophical and theological studies at the San Buenaventura Major Seminary of Mérida. He was awarded a licentiate in pastoral theology from the Pontifical Lateran University of Rome, a master’s degree in psychology and consultation from the Regina Apostolorum Pontifical Athenaeum of Rome, and a postgraduate specialization in ecclesiastical management from the Universidad de Los Andes of Mérida.
He received priestly ordination on 15 September 1999, and was incardinated in the archdiocese of Mérida.
He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Nuestra Señora de Regla; parish vicar of Santiago Apóstol de Lagunillas and of Santa Rita del Pueblo Nuevo del Sur; parish priest of Santo Domingo de Guzmán; parish administrator of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria in Las Piedras; formator of the preparatory of the San Buenaventura Major Seminary of Mérida; parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Canaguá; parish priest of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Mérida; deputy supervisor of the pre-matrimonial school of the archdiocesan family pastoral service; rector of the San Buenaventura Shrine of Ejido; director of Radio Libertad of Canaguá; and parish priest of the Inmaculada Concepción Cathedral of Mérida. On 19 July 2017 he was appointed titular bishop of Unizibira and auxiliary of the archdiocese of Mérida. He received episcopal consecration on 29 September 2017.
