The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Nevers, France, presented by Bishop Thierry Brac de la Perrière, transferring him to the titular see of Senez and the office of auxiliary of Lyon.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Blois, France, presented by Bishop Jean-Pierre Batut, transferring him to the titular see of Maillezais and the office of auxiliary of Toulouse.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Reims, France

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Etienne Vetö, I.C.N., until now director of the Cardinal Bea Centre for Judaic Studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Reims, France, assigning him the titular see of Thérouanne.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Etienne Vetö was born on 28 November 1964 in Milwaukee, USA. He attended the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Fontenay-Saint-Cloud, earned a master's degree in English language and literature at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, and later an aggrégation in philosophy. He taught philosophy at the Saint-Gabriel Minor Seminary of Lobomo in Dolise, Republic of Congo, and was a lecturer at the Lycée Faidherbe in Lille.

He gave his solemn vows in 1996 and was ordained a priest on 20 September 1997 for the Chemin Neuf Institute.

He studied theology at the Humboldt-Universität of Berlin (1993-1994) and then received a licentiate from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome. He was head of Youth Services of the Central Committee for the Jubilee Year 2000 (1997-2001); lecturer in philosophy at the Faculty of the Centre Sèvres in Paris; and head of the philosophy Studium of the Chemin Neuf in Chartres (2001-2014). He was awarded a doctorate from the Centre Sèvres in Paris in 2009, and went on to serve as a member of the Theological Commission of the Conference of Men and Women Religious of France (2009-2014); evaluation expert for AVEPRO (2011-2016); since 2014, visiting professor of theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University; since 2016, member of the General Council of the Community and general assistant in the Board of the Chemin Neuf Institute; since 2018, member of the Charis International Service of Communion; since 2019, consultor of the Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity; since 2021, member of the International Theological Commission; and to date, director of the Cardinal Bea Centre for Judaic Studies of Rome.

 

Appointment of coadjutor archbishop of Hartford, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Christopher J. Coyne of Burlington, United States of America, as coadjutor archbishop of Hartford, United States of America.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Christopher J. Coyne was born on 17 June 1958 in Woburn, Massachusetts. He attended the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and Saint John’s. Seminary in Brighton, where he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a Master of Divinity respectively. He then obtained a licentiate and a doctorate in sacred liturgy from the Pontifical Saint Anselm Athenaeum in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 17 June 1986 for the archdiocese of Boston.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Saint Mary of the Hills in Milton (1986-1989); professor at Saint John’s Seminary (1995-2002); diocesan director of the Liturgical Office (1999-2002); Cabinet Secretary for Public Relations and spokesperson of the archdiocese of Boston (2002-2005); parish priest of Our Lady Help of Christians in Newton (2005-2006); and parish priest of Saint Margaret Mary in Westwood (2006-2011).

He was appointed titular bishop of Mopta and auxiliary of Indianapolis on 14 January 2011, receiving episcopal ordination the following 2 March. He was apostolic administrator of the archdiocese of Indianapolis from 2011 to 2012. On 22 December 2014 he was transferred to the see of Burlington, Vermont, taking residence on 29 January 2015.
