Appointment of bishop of Gokwe, Zimbabwe
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Eusebius Jelous Nyathi, of the clergy of Hwange, until now rector of the Saints John Fisher and Thomas More National Major Seminary of Chishawasha in the archdiocese of Harare, as bishop of the diocese of Gokwe, Zimbabwe.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Eusebius Jelous Nyathi was born on 2 August 1974 in Hwange. After attending the minor seminary of Dete he then entered the preparatory seminary of Mazowe. He obtained a diploma in philosophy and a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Chishawasha National Seminary, Harare.
He was ordained a priest on 17 July 2004 for the diocese of Hwange.
After ordination, he first held the following roles: vice-rector of the diocesan minor seminary and vice-promoter of vocations (2004-2005); parish priest of Saint Mary, head of the mission and director of the Chimuniko Pastoral Centre (2005-2008); and rector of the diocesan minor seminary and promoter of vocations (2008-2011). He carried out specialization studies in theology in Tenerife, Spain (2011-2013), and went on to serve as teacher and formator of the Saints John Fisher and Thomas More National Major Seminary (from 2014); vice-rector for the theology section of the Saints John Fisher and Thomas More National Major Seminary (2015-2022); diocesan delegate for the ongoing formation of the clergy (since 2016), and, to date, rector of the Saints John Fisher and Thomas More National Major Seminary.
