This morning, in the study of the Paul VI Hall, the President of the Republic of Cuba, His Excellency Mr. Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, was received in audience by the Holy Father Francis. He subsequently met with His Eminence Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, accompanied by Msgr. Daniel Pacho, Under-Secretary for the Multilateral Sector of the Section for Relations with States and International Organizations.
During the talks with the Secretariat of State, the importance of diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Cuba was discussed, evoking the historic visit of Saint John Paul II in 1998, on its 25th anniversary. Attention then turned to the situation in the country and the contribution offered by the Church, especially in the charitable sectors.
Mention was then made of some international themes of mutual interest, and the importance of continuing commitment to the common good was emphasized.
