Transfer of auxiliary bishop of Lugoj to bishop of the eparchy of Lugoj of the Romanians, Romania
His Beatitude Cardinal Lucian Mureşan, major archbishop of Făgăraş şi Alba Iulia of the Romanians, with the consent of the Synod of Bishops of the Greek-Catholic Romanian Major Archepiscopal Church, and having informed the Apostolic See, has transferred Bishop Călin Ioan Bot, titular of Abritto and auxiliary of the eparchy of Lugoj of the Romanians, to the office of bishop of the same circumscription.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Călin Ioan Bot was born on 24 July 1970 in Surduc, in the county of Sălaj, eparchy of Cluj-Gherla.
From 1991 to 1995, he studied at the Saint John the Evangelist Theological Institute, affiliated to the Babeş Bolyai State University of Cluj-Napoca, where he was awarded a licentiate in theology. In 2003 he attended a specialization course for seminary formators at the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome, where in 2005 he was also awarded a licentiate in spiritual theology.
On 10 September 1995 he was ordained a priest in Tihău by Bishop Vasile Hossu, then eparchial bishop of Cluj-Gherla.
From 1995 to 2000 he was educational director of the Saint John the Evangelist Theological Institute of Cluj-Napoca, and from 2005 to 2007 he served as rector of the Saint John the Evangelist Theological Seminary of Cluj-Napoca.
In 2017 he was appointed protosyncellus of the eparchy of Cluj-Gherla, and on 22 January 2020 he was elected auxiliary bishop of the eparchy of Lugoj of the Romanians, receiving episcopal consecration on 21 June 2020.
Following the death of Bishop Alexandru Mesian, the major archbishop His Beatitude Cardinal Mureşan appointed him administrator of the eparchy of Lugoj.
