Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Cuenca, Ecuador
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fernando Ortega Ortega, of the clergy of the diocese of Ambato, until now diocesan bursar, as auxiliary bishop of Cuenca, Ecuador.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Fernando Ortega Ortega was born on 15 November 1973 in Ambato. After work experience and a pastoral engagement with indigenous peoples in the forests of Dabeiba, Colombia, he was ordained a priest on 23 June 2006, and incardinated in the diocese of Ambato.
He was awarded a licentiate in theology from the Universidad de Navarra, Spain.
He has held the offices of parish vicar, parish priest, vicar for the pastoral care of indigenous peoples; seminary formator and rector; member of the Presbyteral Council and of the Council for the Ongoing Formation of the Clergy; professor in the major seminary and the School of Theology for the Laity; president of the Organization of Seminaries of Ecuador and, to date, bursar of the diocese of Ambato.
