Resignation and appointment of bishop of Evreux, France

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Evreux, France, presented by Bishop Christian Nourrichard.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Olivier de Cagny, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Paris, until now rector of the Paris Major Seminary, as bishop of Evreux, France.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Olivier de Cagny was born on 13 December 1961 in Neuilly-sur-Seine. After work experience as a commercial engineer, he entered the seminary of Paris and obtained a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 27 June 1992 for the archdiocese of Paris.

After ordination, he first embarked on a study and research mission (1992-1993), studied sacred chant and music, and obtained a licentiate in theology from the Superior Institute of Liturgy in Paris (1994); he went on to serve as professor in the Notre-Dame Faculty of Paris (1993-1999), parish vicar of Saint-Denys-du-Saint-Sacrement (1993-1999); formator in the Paris Seminary (1995-2003); member of the priestly and religious vocations service (1999-2009); chaplain of La Tour College (2003-2008) and of Gerson College (2003-2009); chaplain of Notre-Dame-du-Saint-Sacrement; head of the organ examination service (since 2007); member of the Commission of liturgical and sacramental pastoral care (2009-2013); parish priest of Saint-Louis-en-l’Île; head of the Saint-Louis-en-l’Île House of the Paris Seminary and teacher at the Ecole cathédrale (2009-2019); dean of Marais (2012-2021); member of the diocesan Organs Commission (2013-2016); chair of the Commission for Liturgical and Sacramental Pastoral Care (2013-2019); administrator of Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis (2013-2014); honorary canon then titular of Notre-Dame Cathedral of Parish (2019). Since 2019 he has served as rector of the Paris Major Seminary.

 

Appointment of president and judges of the Vatican City State Supreme Court

The Holy Father has appointed His Eminence Cardinal Keven Joseph Farrell, prefect of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life, as president of the Vatican City State Supreme Court, with effect from 1 January 2024.

The Roman Pontiff has also appointed the following as judges of the same court, to take effect on the same date: Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, archbishop of Bologna; Cardinal Paolo Lojudice, archbishop of Siena-Colle di Val d’Elsa Montalcino; Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, O.F.M. Conv., vicar general of His Holiness for Vatican City State.

Furthermore, the Holy Father has appointed the following as applied judges of the aforementioned Supreme Court, with effect on the same date: the distinguished Professor Antonio Antonella Marandola, professor of criminal procedure law at the University of Sannio, and the distinguished Professor Chiara Minelli, professor of canon law at the University of Brescia.

 

Appointment of adjunct president of Vatican City State Tribunal

The Holy Father has appointed the distinguished Professor Venerando Marano, judge at Vatican City State Tribunal, as adjunct president of the same Court, to take effect from 1 January 2024.
