Resignation and succession of bishop of Mawlamyine, Myanmar

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Mawlamyine, Myanmar, presented by Bishop Raymond Saw Po Ray.

He is succeeded by Bishop Maurine Nyunt Wai, until now coadjutor bishop.

 

Resignation and succession of archbishop of Katowice, Poland

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Katowice, Poland, presented by Archbishop Wiktor Paweł Skworc.

He is succeeded by Archbishop Adrian Józef Galbas, S.A.C., until now coadjutor archbishop of the same archdiocese.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Barra, Brazil

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Barra, Brazil, presented by Bishop Luiz Flávio Cappio, O.F.M.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. João Batista Alves do Nascimento, C.SS.R., until now rector of the Bom Jesus da Lapa Shrine, in the same city and diocese, as bishop of Barra, Brazil.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. João Batista Alves do Nascimento, C.S.R., was born on 3 February 1972 in Jordânia, diocese of Almenara, in the State of Minas Gerais. After completing his studies in philosophy and theology at the Universidade Católica do Salvador in Salvador-BA, he gave his religious vows on 8 February 1998 in the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists) and was ordained a priest on 16 December 2001.

After ordination, he was first a member of the Missionary Team (2002-2003), as formator of the Aspirantate period (2004) and of the philosophy seminary (2005-2007 and 2015-2018), and vicar of the vice-provincial (2005-2007). He was awarded a licentiate from the Pontifical Theological Faculty and Pontifical Institute of Spirituality “Teresianum” in Rome (2007-2009). He went on to serve as superior of the Redemptorist vice-province of Bahia (011-2014), and member of the Council of Redemptorist Missionaries of Bahia. In addition, he has been parish vicar and head of a pastoral area in the archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia.

He is currently a member of the Presbyteral Council in the diocese of Bom Jesus da Lapa and, since 2019, rector of the Bom Jesus da Lapa Shrine.

 

Resignation of vicar apostolic of Napo, Ecuador

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the apostolic vicariate of Napo, Ecuador, presented by Bishop Adelio Pasqualotto, C.S.J., titular of Abthugni.

 

Appointment of bishop of Pathein, Myanmar

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Henry Eikhlein, of the clergy of Pathein, Myanmar, until now diocesan administrator of the same diocese, as bishop of the diocese of Pathein, Myanmar.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Henry Eikhlein was born on 23 June 1960 in Painne Chaung, in the diocese of Pathein. He obtained a bachelor's degree in psychology from Yangon University and later studied philosophy and theology at Saint Joseph’s Major Seminary in Yangon.

He was ordained a priest on 11 March 1989 for the diocese of Pathein.

After ordination, he first served as deputy parish priest of Pathein Cathedral (1989). He obtained a licentiate in theology from the Université Catholique de l'Ouest, Angers (1992-1994); Following monastic experience in France (1989-1990), England, Israel and the Philippines (1994-1995); he went on to hold the roles of parish priest of Theyetchaung, Pathein (1995-1997); rector of the minor seminary in Mayanchaung, Pathein (1996-1997); spiritual director (1998-2003) and then rector (2003-2009) of the major seminary in Yangon; diocesan director of Caritas "Karuna" in Pathein (2009-2017); and coordinator of the diocesan socio-pastoral programme (2018-2021). Since 2021, he has been diocesan administrator of the diocese of Pathein.

 

Appointment of bishop of Amargosa, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Juraci Gomes de Oliveira, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia, until now vicar general, as bishop of the Diocese of Amargosa, Brazil.

Msgr. Juraci Gomes de Oliveira was born on 19 August 1956 in Catolé do Rocha, diocese of Cajazeiras, in the State of Paraíba. He studied philosophy and theology at the Universidade Católica de Pernambuco in Recife-PE, and obtained a licentiate in marriage and family studies at the Pontifical John Paul II Theological Institute, Salvador-BA.

He was ordained a priest on 3 November 1990. He is incardinated in the archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia, where he has held the following positions: parish priest of São Teresa d'Ávila, São José de Amaraina, Nossa Senhora de Nazaré and Santo Amaro; chaplain of the Churches of Nossa Senhora da Palma and Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Lapa; parish administrator of Santo André; vicar forane; episcopal vicar; spiritual director of the major seminary; professor at the Universidade Católica do Salvador and the Faculdade de São Bento, both in Salvador-BA; moderator of the archdiocesan Curia; member of the Chapter of Canons, the College of Consultors and the Council for Economic Affairs; administrative director of archdiocesan Social Action and, until now, vicar general.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishops of Rosario, Argentina

The Holy Father has appointed the following as auxiliary bishops of Rosario, Argentina: the Reverend Fabián Alberto Belay, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Rosario, parish priest of María Madre de Dios and episcopal delegate for the pastoral care of chemist employees, assigning him the titular see of Aguntum, and the Reverend Ernesto José Fernández, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Rosario, parish priest of Nuestra Señora de la Merced, assigning him the titular see of Deultum.

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Fabián Alberto Belay

Msgr. Belay was born on 3 November 1978 in Rosario. He completed his ecclesiastical studies in the archdiocesan seminary of Rosario and was ordained a priest on 6 August 2009 and incardinated in the same archdiocese. He has held the following positions: vicar and parish administrator, and secretary of the Presbyteral Council. He is currently parish priest of María Madre de Dios in Rosario, rector of the Buen Pastor Church, episcopal delegate for the pastoral care of chemist employees, member of the Presbyteral Council and the Commission for the Ongoing Formation of the Clergy, responsible for the accompaniment of young clergy and promoter of the Asociación Padre Misericordioso, which works to rehabilitate drug addicts.

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Ernesto José Fernández

Msgr. Fernández was born on 19 March 1966. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology in the archdiocesan seminary of Rosario, and was ordained a priest on 13 December 1990 and incardinated in the same archdiocese. He has held the following offices: parish vicar, dean and assessor of the Schönstatt Movement of the archdiocese. He is currently parish priest of Nuestra Señora de la Merced, episcopal vicar for pastoral care and member of the Episcopal Council, the Consejo de Órdenes, the Presbyteral Council and the Commission for the Ongoing Formation of the Clergy.

 

Appointment of president of the Pontifical Academy “Latinitatis”

The Holy Father has appointed the distinguished Professor Mario De Nonno, professor of Latin literature at the Department of Humanistic Studies at the University Roma Tre, Italy, as president of the Pontifical Academy “Latinitatis”.

 

Appointment of secretary of the Pontifical Academy “Latinitatis”

The Holy Father has appointed the distinguished Professor Paolo D’Alessandro, professor of classical philology at the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University Roma Tre, Italy, and lecturer in codicology at the Vatican School of Paleography, Diplomatics and Archivistics, as secretary of the Pontifical Academy “Latinitatis”.
