The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Aurélio Pinto de Sousa, of the clergy of the diocese of Tianguá, until now parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Assunção in Viçosa do Ceará-CE, as bishop of the diocese of Quixadá, Brazil.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Aurélio Pinto de Sousa was born on 12 November 1974 in Guaraciaba do Norte, diocese of Tianguá, in the State of Ceará. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the Instituto Teológico Pastoral do Ceará in Fortaleza-CE, and in theology at the Faculdade Jesuíta de Filosofia e Teologia (FAJE) in Belo Horizonte-MG, where he was awarded a bachelor’s degree and a licentiate.
He was ordained a priest on 12 July 2007, and incardinated in the diocese of Tianguá.
After ordination, he first served as rector of the Dom Timóteo Seminary (2003-2008) and parish vicar of the Cathedral (2008-2013). After obtaining a doctorate in sacramental theology at the Pontifical Saint Anselm Athenaeum in Rome (2014), he went on to hold the roles of administrator of the Área Pastoral São Pedro (2013-2016), parish priest of São Pedro in Tianguá-CE (2015-2022), member of the Presbyteral Council, lecturer in liturgy in the Faculdade Católica de Fortaleza-CE, diocesan assistant for liturgical pastoral care, and representative of presbyters.
To date he has served as parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Assunção in Viçosa do Ceará-CE.
