Resignation of bishop of the diocese of Kottapuram, India

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Kottapuram, India, presented by Bishop Joseph Karikkassery.

 

Resignation and succession of bishop of Providence, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Providence, United States of America, presented by Bishop Thomas J. Tobin.

He is succeeded by Bishop Richard G. Henning, until now coadjutor bishop of the same diocese.

 

Appointment of bishop of Nha Trang, Viêt Nam

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Joseph Huynh Van Sy, of the clergy of Quy Nhon, until now judicial vicar and rector of the Saint Joseph Seminary of Quy Nhon, as bishop of the diocese of Nha Trang, Viêt Nam.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Joseph Huynh Van Sy was born on 10 January in Go Thi, Binh Dinh, in the diocese of Quy Nhon. He studied philosophy and theology at the Stella Maris (Sao Bien) Major Seminary of Nha Trang and was ordained a priest on 12 May 1999, for the diocese of Quy Nhon.

After ordination, he first served in the bishopric of Quy Nhon (1999-2001). He was awarded a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Urbanian University, Rome (2001-2006) and went on to hold the offices of secretary to the bishop of Quy Nhon (2006-2009); since 2009, judicial vicar and rector of Saint Joseph’s Seminary in the diocese of Quy Nhon, member of the Presbyteral Council, the Council of Consultors and the Committee for the ongoing formation of priests, and teacher in the major seminary of Nha Trang.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Calabar, Nigeria

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverned Christopher Naseri Naseri, of the clergy of Calabar, Nigeria, until now deputy parish priest of Saint Bernard in Marian Hill and professor of the University of Calabar, as auxiliary bishop of the same archdiocese, assigning him the titular see of Gurza.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Christopher Naseri Naseri was born on 5 April 1970 in Calabar. He attended the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Mfamosing and the Marianum Spiritual Year Seminary in Calabar, and studied philosophy at Saint Joseph Major Seminary in Ikot Ekpene and theology in the Seat of Wisdom Seminary of Owerri. He was ordained a priest on 5 July 1997 for the clergy of Calabar.

He has held the following offices: deputy parish priest of Saint John, Akamkpa and teacher in the Mary Immaculate Juniorate, Iwuru (1997-1998); deputy parish priest of Saint Bernard (1998-2000); secretary to the archbishop of Calabar (1998-2003); parish administrator of Saint Vincent, Mbukpa, and chaplain of the Federal Girls’ College Chaplaincy, Calabar (1999-2000); member and secretary of the Council of Consultors (1999-2003); parish priest of Saint Bernard and vice chancellor of the archdiocese of Calabar (2000-2003); and president of the archdiocesan Commission for the Seminary (2001-2003). After obtaining a licentiate and a doctorate from the Pontifical Urbanian University, Rome (2003-2009), he went on to serve as formator of the Saint Joseph Major Seminary (2009-2020); vicar for the clergy of the archdiocese of Calabar and member of the College of Consultors (2013-2018); and to date, parish vicar of Saint Bernard and professor in the University of Calabar and in the Saint Joseph Major Seminary.
