The Holy Father has appointed His Eminence Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, as his special envoy to the National Eucharistic Congress of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to be held in Lubumbashi from 4 to 11 June 2023.

Appointment of coadjutor archbishop of Tabora, Tanzania

The Holy Father has appointed Archbishop Protase Rugambwa, former secretary of the Dicastery for Evangelization, in the Section for First Evangelization and the new particular Churches, as coadjutor archbishop of Tabora, Tanzania.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop Rugambwa was born on 31 May 1960 in Bunena, Tanzania, and was ordained a priest on 2 September 1990 for the diocese of Rulenge. In 1998 he was awarded a doctorate in pastoral theology from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome.

From 2002 to 2008 he served as an official of the former Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

On 18 January 2008 he was appointed bishop of the diocese of Kigoma, Tanzania, and on 26 June 2012, adjunct secretary of the same Dicastery and president of the Pontifical Mission Societies, with the personal title of archbishop.

On 9 November 2017 he was appointed secretary of the same Congregation.
