The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Bubanza, Burundi, presented by Bishop Jean Ntagwarara.

 

Resignation and appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Santiago de Compostela, Spain

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of metropolitan archdiocese of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, presented by Archbishop Julián Barrio Barrio.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop José Prieto Fernández as metropolitan archbishop of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, transferring him from the titular see of Vergi and from the office of auxiliary of Santiago de Compostela.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect José Prieto Fernández was born on 18 August 1968 in Orense. He attended the major seminary of Orense and obtained a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Faculty of Theology of the Universidad de Navarra in 1992, and a licentiate in patristic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on 26 June 1993.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Santa Teresita (1994-1995); formator of the minor seminary (1995-1996); parish administrator in various communities (1996-2001 and 2008-2009); chaplain of the San José Monastery (2004-2020); parish vicar of San Pio X (2009-2020); and episcopal vicar for new evangelization (2012-2020). Within the university sphere, he has served as adjunct professor at the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca (1995-1996), professor at the Theological Institute of Orense (2007-2019), director of the Distance Theological Centre (1998-2020) and director of the Diocesan School of Theology (2009-2012).

He was appointed titular bishop of Vergi and auxiliary of Santiago de Compostela on 28 January 2021, and consecrated the following 10 April. Within the Episcopal Conference he is a member of the Episcopal Commission for Social Communications and of the Sub-Commission for Cultural Heritage.

 

Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Lille, France

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Laurent Le Boulc’h, until now bishop of Coutances, as metropolitan archbishop of Lille, France.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Laurent Le Boulc’h was born on 4 September 1960 in Loudéac, in the diocese of Saint-Brieuc. He entered the interdiocesan seminary of Vannes, where he attended courses in philosophy and theology, and was ordained a priest on 19 June 1988, for the diocese of Saint-Brieuc.

After ordination, he first served as vicar of the Cathedral of Saint-Brieuc (1988-1991). He was then awarded a licentiate in theology from the Institut Catholique in Paris (1991-1993). He went on to serve as episcopal vicar for youth pastoral care (1993-2005); head of the pastoral care of Catholic schools (1993-2013); head of permanent formation (2003-2005); parish priest of Lannion, and head of the pastoral zone of the same name (2005-2013). On 5 September 2013 he was appointed bishop of Coutances, and received episcopal ordination the following 27 October. Within the Bishops’ Conference of France, he is chair of the “Territories and Parishes” Working Group, and member of the Council for movements and associations of the faithful.

 

Appointment of bishop of Alcalá de Henares, Spain

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Antonio Prieto Lucena, of the clergy of Córdoba, until now vicar general, as bishop of Alcalá de Henares, Spain.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Antonio Prieto Lucena was born in La Rambla, Córdoba, on 13 January 1974. In 2002 he obtained a licentiate in theology of marriage from the Pontifical John Paul II Theological Institute in Rome, and in 2006 he was awarded a doctorate in moral theology from the San Dámaso Ecclesiastical University of Madrid.

He was ordained a priest on 2 July 2000.

He has held the following offices: vice rector and professor of Christology and Trinitarian Studies of the Seminario Conciliar San Pelagio; member of the Presbyteral Council and member of the clergy of the parish of San Isidro (2004-2007); member of the clergy in the Basilica of San Pedro Apóstol and director of the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences (2005-2007); rector of the Seminario Conciliar San Pelagio; professor of morality at the Theological Studium; lecturer at the San Dámaso University of Madrid; diocesan delegate for vocational pastoral care (2007-2018); member of the Theological Commission in collaboration with the Episcopal for the Doctrine of the Faith (since 2012); from 2018 to date, vicar general and parish priest in solidum of San Miguel Arcángel y la Merced in Córdoba.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishops of Seville, Spain

The Holy Father has appointed the following as auxiliary bishops of the archdiocese of Seville, Spain: the Reverend Teodoro León Muñoz, of the clergy of Seville, vicar general, assigning him the titular see of Mentesa, and the Reverend Ramón Darío Valdivia Jiménez, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, parish priest and episcopal vicar, assigning him the titular see of Egabro.

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Teodoro León Muñoz

Msgr. Teodoro León Muñoz was born on 27 November 1964 in Puertollano, Ciudad Real. He was ordained a priest in Seville on 22 December 1991, and obtained a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in 2000.

He has held the following offices: administrator (1991-1992), and then parish priest of Nuestra Señora de las Veredas (1992-1995); parish vicar of San Isidoro (2000-2004); defender of the bond at the interdiocesan tribunal (2000-2008); professor in the Centre for Theological Studies (2000-2012); vice chancellor and deputy secretary general of the archdiocese (2002-2005); canon of the Cathedral (since 2002); delegate for judicial affairs of the Confraternity (2005-2009); and vice president and president of the interdiocesan tribunal (2008-2010). Until now he has served as dean of the Cathedral Chapter, and is vicar general.

 

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Ramón Darío Valdivia Jiménez

Msgr. Ramón Darío Valdivia Jiménez was born on 16 December 1974 in Osuna, Seville. He was ordained a priest on 14 September 2003, and obtained a licentiate in law from the Universidad de Sevilla in 2001, and a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Centre of Theological Studies in 2003. He then obtained a licentiate in philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in 2006, a doctorate in 2008, and a doctorate in law from the Universidad de Sevilla in 2020.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Nuestra Señora de Valme (2003-2004); parish priest of La Asunción (2008-2010); vice rector of the seminary (2010-2015); director of formation for the permanent diaconate (2011-2016); and director of the Centre for Theological Studies (2012-2018). Since 2008 he has served as professor in the San Isidoro Faculty of Theology; to date he has been parish priest of the Iglesia de San Roque, member of the College of Consultors and episcopal vicar of Sevilla Ciudad I.

 

Appointment of president of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Sr. Helen Alford, O.P., dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas – Angelicum, Rome, as president of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.
