Appointment of vicar apostolic of Ingwavuma, South Africa
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Vusumuzi Francis Mazibuko, O.M.I., hitertho parish priest of Saint Mary’s in Pietermaritzburg, archdiocese of Durban, as vicar apostolic of Ingwavuma, South Africa.
Curriculum vitae
The Reverend Fr. Vusumuzi Francis Mazibuko, O.M.I., was born on 17 May 1965 in Leskop, Estcourt, in the archdiocese of Durban. He entered the Congregation of Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, and carried out the first part of his formation at Saint Joseph’s Theological Institute in Cedara, South Africa, and the second part in Lesotho (1992-1995). He gave his religious vows on 17 February 1995, and was ordained a priest on 27 April 1996.
After ordination, he served as a formator at Saint Joseph’s Theological Institute, Cedara (1996-1997), parish vicar at Saint John, Estcourt (1997-1999), and parish priest and again formator at Saint Joseph’s Theological Institute (1999-2002). After studying for a licentiate in spirituality at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome (2002-2004), he was superior of Saint Joseph’s Theological Institute (2005-2011) and provincial of the O.M.I. province of KwaZulu-Natal (2011-2018). To date he has served as parish priest of Saint Mary’s in Pietermaritzburg.
