Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Porto Alegre, Brazil
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Juarez Albino Destro, R.C.I., as auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Porto Alegre, Brazil, assigning him the titular see of Sufetula.
Msgr. Juarez Albino Destro was born on 9 April 1967 in Criciúma, in the diocese of the same name, in the state of Santa Catarina. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the Instituto Vicentino de Filosofia in Curitiba-PR, and in theology at the Instituto Teológico São Paulo in São Paulo-SP.
On 27 January 1990 he gave his religious vows in the Congregation of the Rogationist Fathers of the Heart of Jesus, and received priestly ordination on 24 August 1996.
He has held the following positions: editor of the Rogate journal and member of the Institute of Vocations Pastoral Care in São Paulo-SP (1997-2010); secretary of the São Lucas Province based in São Paulo-SP (1997-2022); provincial counsellor (2002-2009); provincial superior (2010- 2018); master of novices in Brasília-DF; provincial vicar; formation counsellor and provincial secretary.
Since 2019 he has served as assessor of the Pastoral Episcopal Commission for Ordained Ministries and Consecrated Life of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil.
