The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the office of auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Detroit, United States of America, presented by Bishop Donald F. Hanchon.
Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Capiz, Philippines
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Victor Barnuevo Bendico as metropolitan archbishop of Capiz, Philippines, transferring him from the see of Baguio.
Curriculum vitae
Archbishop-elect Victor Barnuevo Bendico was born on 22 January 1960 in Roxas City. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the University of Santo Tomas Central Seminary in Manila, and was awarded a doctorate in sacred liturgy at the Pontifical Saint Anselm Athenaeum in Rome.
He was ordained a priest on 14 April 1984 for the archdiocese of Capiz.
He has held the following pastoral offices: spiritual director of the Saint Pius X Seminary in Roxas City (1984-1988); parish vicar of Saint Therese in Roxas City (1992-1995); rector of Santa Maria Mater et Regina Seminarium Maius, Roxas City; parish priest of Saint Isidore in Pontevedra, Capiz (2000-2006), of Saint Laurence in Panitan and Pontevedra, Capiz (2006-2011), and until 2016, parish priest of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Roxas City.
On 1 October 2016 he was elected bishop of Baguio, receiving episcopal consecration on 22 February 2017.
Within the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, he chairs the Episcopal Commission for the Liturgy.
