Resignation of apostolic nuncio in the Dominican Republic

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the office of apostolic nuncio in the Dominican Republic, with the office of apostolic delegate in Puerto Rico, presented by Archbishop Ghaleb Bader, titular of Mathara in Numidia.

 

Elevation to diocese of the apostolic vicariate of Isiolo, Kenya, and appointment of first bishop

The Holy Father has elevated the apostolic vicariate of Isiolo, Kenya, to a diocese, with the same denomination and territorial configuration, making it a suffragan of the metropolitan see of Nyeri.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Anthony Ireri Mukobo, I.MC., until now titular bishop of Rusguniae and vicar apostolic of Isiolo, as first bishop of the diocese of Isiolo.

Statistical data

The diocese of Isiolo is situated in the central part of Kenya, and its boundaries correspond to those of the civil county of the same name. It has an area of 25,700 km2 and a population of 268,000 inhabitants, of whom 66,000 are Catholics. There are 13 parishes, 74 educational and 11 charitable institutions, including 5 dispensaries and one maternity hospital. It is served by 19 diocesan priests, 2 fidei donum priests, and 3 missionary priests, along with 66 consecrated persons.

 

Appointment of bishop of Nakuru, Kenya

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Cleophas Oseso Tuka, of the clergy of Nakuru, until now vicar general and parish priest of Saint Augustine in Bahati, as bishop of the diocese of Nakuru, Kenya.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Cleophas Oseso Tuka was born on 26 November 1967 in Naivasha, in the diocese of Nakuru. He studied philosophy at Saint Augustine’s Senior Seminary in Mabanga, and theology at the Saint Matthias Mulumba Senior Seminary of Tindinyo.

He was ordained a priest on 24 June 1995 for the diocese of Nakuru. He was subsequently awarded a master’s degree in business administration from Le Moyne College, United States of America, and a doctorate in education from the Graduate Theological Foundation, United States of America.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Njoro (1995-1996); parish vicar of the Holy Cross parish (1996-1997); diocesan procurator (1998); diocesan bursar (1999-2003); deputy parish priest of Saint Ambrose, Endicott (2004), Holy Family and Saint Margaret, Syracuse (2004-2013) in the archdiocese of New York; parish priest of the Mary Mother of God parish in Kabarnet, diocese of Nakuru (2013-2018); since 2018, vicar general of the diocese of Nakuru and parish priest of Saint Augustine in Bahati.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Santo Amaro, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed Reverend Marcelo Antônio da Silva, of the clergy of the diocese of Santo Amaro, Brazil, until now vicar general and parish priest of São Pancrácio, as auxiliary of Santo Amaro, assigning him the titular see of Tabaicara.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Marcelo Antônio da Silva was born on 19 April 1972 in Apucarana, in the diocese of the same name in the State of Paraná. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the Centro Universitário Assunção in São Paulo-SP, and in theology in the Nossa Senhora da Assunção Pontifical Faculty of Theology in São-Paulo-SP. He was then awarded a licentiate and a doctorate in bioethics at the Centro Universitário São Camilo in São Paulo.

He received priestly ordination on 1 November 1997 and was incardinated in the diocese of Santo Amaro.

He has held the following offices: rector of the Nossa Senhora de Fátima Shrine (1997-2005); parish priest of the Sagrada Família (2005-2010) and of Nossa Senhora da Esperança (2011-2019); member of the Presbyteral Council, the College of Consultors and the diocesan Council for Economic Affairs; director of the local institutes of philosophy and theology; chaplain of the Chapel of Blessed Carlo Acutis.

From 2019 to date, he has served as vicar general and parish priest of São Pancrácio.

 

Appointment of secretary of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Michel Jalakh, O.A.M., until now rector of the Antonine University in Baabda, Lebanon, as secretary of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches.

Curriculum vitae

The Reverend Fr. Michel Jalakh was born on 27 August 1966 in Baouchrieh, Lebanon. On 15 August he gave his first religious vows in the Antonin Maronite Order, and on 21 April 1991 he was ordained a priest. From December 2000 to July 2008 he served as an officer in the former Congregation for the Eastern Churches. He was awarded a doctorate in ecclesiology from the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome, Italy, in 2008. From 2013 to 2018 he was secretary general of the Middle East Council of Churches and a member of the Commission for Ecumenical Relations o the Catholic Patriarchs’ and Bishops’ Assembly in Lebanon. He is a teacher at the Antonine University in Baabda, of which he became rector in 2017.

 

Appointment of member of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints

The Holy Father has appointed Cardinal António Augusto dos Santos Marto, bishop emeritus of Leiria-Fátima, Portugal, as member of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints.
