Resignation and appointment of auxiliary bishop of Esztergom-Budapest, Hungary

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the office of auxiliary of the metropolitan archdiocese of Esztergom-Budapest, presented by Bishop Ferenc Cserháti.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Levente Balázs Martos, of the clergy of the diocese of Szombathely, hitherto rector of the Central Seminary of Budapest, as auxiliary of the metropolitan archdiocese of Ezstergom-Budapest, assigning him the titular see of Treba.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Levente Balázs Martos was born on 18 November 1973 in Szombathely. He completed his studies in philosophy and theology at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University of Budapest.

He was ordained a priest on 27 June 1998 for the diocese of Szombathely.

After obtaining a licentiate in sacred scripture from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome, he was awarded a doctorate and qualification in biblical sciences from the Pázmány Péter Catholic University.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of the Cathedral of Szombathely (2000-2007); teacher at the Theological Institute of Szeged (2008-2013); prefect of the Seminary of Győr (2013-2018); spiritual father of the Saint John Paul II Catholic College of Szombathely (2017-2018); head of formation of the laity in the dioceses of Szombathely and university chaplain (2018-2019).

He is currently a teacher at the Theological Institute of Győr (since 2007), a member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission (since 2014) and, since 2019, rector of the Central Seminary of Budapest.
