Resignation and appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Tegucigalpa, Honduras

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, presented by His Eminence Cardinal Óscar Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga, S.D.B.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. José Vicente Náchter Tatay, C.M., until now parish priest of San Vicente de Paúl in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and regional superior of the Congregation of the Mission in Honduras, as metropolitan archbishop of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. José Vicente Náchter Tatay, C.M., was born on 10 April 1964 in Valencia, Spain, He was awarded a licentiate in sociology from the University of Alicante and subsequently studied philosophy and theology at the major seminary of the Congregation of the Mission in Barcelona, and at the Faculty of Theology of Cataluña.

He gave his religious vows in the Congregation of the Mission on 20 January 1990, and was ordained a priest on 26 October 1991.

He has held the following offices: parish priest of San Vicente de Paúl in San Pedro Sula (2000-2005); parish priest of San José in Puerto Lempira (2006-2016), and episcopal vicar of the Mosquitia in the diocese of Trujillo; since 2016, parish priest of San Vicente de Paúl in San Pedro Sula and regional superior of the Congregation of the Mission in Honduras.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Choluteca, Honduras

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Choluteca, Honduras, presented by Bishop Guy Charbonneau, P.M.E.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Teodoro Gómez Rivera as bishop of Choluteca, Honduras, transferring him from the titular see of Castellum Tatroportus and the office of auxiliary of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Teodoro Gómez Rivera was born on 7 May 1963 in El Banquito, Honduras. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Nuestra Señora di Suyapa in Tegucigalpa, and was awarded a licentiate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He received priestly ordination on 27 January 1996, and was incardinated in the diocese of Choluteca.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of San José in Nacaome; diocesan coordinator for vocational pastoral care; spiritual director of the Pablo VI Seminary; formator in the major seminary of Tegucigalpa; parish priest of San Pablo in Choluteca; director of the Monseñor Raúl Institute in Choluteca; diocesan delegate for Caritas; vicar general, episcopal vicar for pastoral ministry and rector of the Santa Maria Goretti Institute in Choluteca.

On 14 November 2020 he was appointed auxiliary bishop of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and was assigned the titular see of Castellum Tatroportus. He received episcopal consecration on 15 May 2021.

 

Resignation of bishop of San Pedro Sula, Honduras, erection of the ecclesiastical province and appointment of the first metropolitan archbishop

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of San Pedro Sula, Honduras, presented by Bishop Angel Garachana Pérez, C.M.F.

The Holy Father has erected the ecclesiastical province of San Pedro Sula, Honduras, elevating the diocese to a metropolitan Church and assigning as suffragans the dioceses of La Ceiba, Gracias, Santa Rosa de Copán, Trujillo and Yoro.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Michael Leniham, O.F.M., as first metropolitan archbishop of San Pedro Sula, Honduras, transferring him from the diocese of La Ceiba, Honduras.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Michael Leniham, O.F.M., was born on 22 September 1951 in Abbeyfeale, Ireland. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the National University of Galway and in theology at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He gave his religious vows in the Order of Friars Minor on 17 September 1977, and was ordained a priest on 12 July 1980.

He has held the following offices: spiritual director of Multyfarnham College, Ireland; vicar of Wesford Convent, Ireland; parish vicar, guardian and parish priest of San Francisco in Gotera, Morazán, El Salvador; guardian and parish vicar of La Palma, Chalatenango, El Salvador; guardian and parish priest of Santos Martíres, Comayagua, Honduras; provincial definitor of the region of Honduras; vicar general of the diocese of Comayagua, Honduras; guardian of the Fraternity of Saint Bonaventure of the Provincial Curia of the Friars Minor and parish vicar of the Immaculado Corazón de María in Guatemala.

On 30 December 2011 he was appointed first bishop of La Ceiba, Honduras, and received episcopal consecration on 11 February 2012.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Wiawso, Ghana

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Wiawso, Ghana, presented by Bishop Joseph Francis Kweki Essien.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Samuel Nkuah-Boateng, of the clergy of Wiawso, until now administrator of the Cathedral of Wiawso, as bishop of the same diocese.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Samuel Nkuah-Boateng was born on 6 May 1968 in Sefwi Bosomoiso. After attending Saint Teresa’s Minor Seminary in Elmina, in the archdiocese of Cape Coast, and Saint Peter’s Regional Major Seminary in Cape Coast, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in sociology and religious studies from the University of Ghana.

He was ordained a priest on 28 July for the diocese of Wiawso.

After ordination, he held the following offices: parish vicar of the Immaculate Conception, in Enchi (2001-2003); secretary to the bishop of Wiawso (2003-2008); rector of Saint Mary’s, in Dwinase (2003-2009); parish priest of Saint Augustine in Sefwi Boako (2009-2011); director of the pastoral and formation centre (2009-2018); administrator of the Cathedral of Wiawso (2011-2018); and president of the Association of Diocesan Priests (2012-2020). He then studied for a master’s degree in pastoral ministry and religious education at the Catholic University of Ghana (2015-2017), and a master’s degree in philosophy (2018-2020). Since 2009 he has been a member of the College of Consultors and the Presbyteral College; since 2020, he has served as director of the Centre for Pastoral Ministry and Formation, coordinator of the diocesan Commission for Justice and Peace, and administrator of the Cathedral of Wiawso.
