The Holy Father has appointed Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio, titular of Montemarano, until now apostolic nuncio in Poland, as president of the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy.

 

Appointment of apostolic nuncio in Denmark

The Holy Father has appointed Archbishop Julio Murat, titular of Orange, apostolic nuncio in Sweden and Iceland, as apostolic nuncio in Denmark.

 

Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Santa Fe de Antioquia, Colombia

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Hugo Alberto Torres Marín as metropolitan archbishop of Santa Fe de Antioquia, Colombia, transferring him from the diocese of Apartadó.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Hugo Alberto Torres Marín was born on 8 August 1960 in Briceño. He attended the Santo Tomás de Aquino Major Seminary of Santa Rosa de Osos.

He received priestly ordination on 24 November 1987.

He was awarded a licentiate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome, and subsequently specialized in philosophy and religious education at the Catholic University of the East in Santa Rosa de Osos.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Don Matías; teacher at the Major Seminary of Santa Rosa de Osos; director of the Monseñor Miguel Ángel Builes Apostolic School in Don Matías; formator of the major seminary; vice rector and academic director of the Catholic University of the North in Santa Rosa de Osos; rector of the Catholic University of the North; episcopal vicar for pastoral ministry; parish priest in Valdivia and rector of the Santa Rosa de Osos Major Seminary.

On 4 May 2011 he was appointed auxiliary bishop of Medellín and assigned the titular see of Bossa, and received episcopal consecration the following 4 June. On 29 September 2015 he was appointed bishop of Apartadó.

 

Appointment of bishop of Roraima, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Evaristo Pascoal Spengler, O.F.M., as bishop of the diocese of Roraima, Brazil, transferring him from the territorial prelature of Marajó.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Evaristo Pascoal Spengler, O.F.M., was born on 29 March 1959 in Gaspar, diocese of Blumenau, in the State of Santa Catarina. After concluding his studies in philosophy and theology at the Instituto Teológico Franciscano (ITF) in Petrópolis-RJ, he was awarded a licentiate in Biblical exegesis in Jerusalem.

On 2 August 1982 he gave his religious vows in the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor, and was ordained a priest on 19 March 1984.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar and member of the urban biblical team in Duque de Caxias-RJ and in Nilópolis-RJ; deputy master of student friars in Duque de Caxias-RJ; conventual assistant in the Santo Antônio do Rio Convent in Rio de Janeiro-RJ; missionary and parish vicar in Malanje, Angola; provincial definitor; deputy minister of the Franciscan province of Imaculada Conceição do Brasil in São Paulo, 2016.

On 1 June 2016 he was appointed bishop prelate of Marajó and received episcopal ordination the following 6 August.

Within the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil, he is chair of the Special Pastoral Commission against human trafficking and member of the Special Episcopal Commission for Amazonia. In addition, he is chair of the Rede Eclesial Pan-Amazônica (REPAM-Brazil).

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Brasília, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Denilson Geraldo, S.A.C., former general counsellor of the Pallottines in Rome, as auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Brasília, Brazil, assigning him the titular see of Lamsorti.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Denilson Geraldo was born on 31 May 1969 in Cornélio Procópio, in the State of Paraná. He carried out his seminary studies in Curitiba-PR, where he attended the course in philosophy at the Pontificia Universidade Católica do Paraná and in theology at the Studium Theologicum. He was awarded a licentiate in canon law at the Instituto de Direito Canônico Pe. Benito Giuseppe Pegoraro in São Paulo-SP, and a doctorate at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome.

On 4 February 1990 he gave his religious vow in the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottines) and was ordained a priest on 6 July 1997.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar and then parish administrator of Santa Bibiana in Martinópolis-SP (1997-1999); parish priest of São João Batista in São Paulo-SP (1999-2007); parish vicar and then parish administrator of Santo Antônio de Lisboa in São Paulo-SP (2010-2016); judge of the archdiocesan ecclesiastical tribunal in São Paulo; professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo-SP, in the São Paulo Apóstolo Faculty of Canon Law in São Paulo-SP, in the Instituto de Direito Canônico de Santa Catarina in Florianópolis-SC, and in the Instituto de Direito Canônico de Londrina in Londrina-PR.

Within his religious order, he is secretary and provincial counsellor of the Province of São Paulo, member and then chair of the International Juridical Commission, and director of the San Vincenzo Pallotti Institute in Rome.

From 2016 to 2022 he has been a member of the general council in Rome.
