Appointment of auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Brisbane, Australia

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Brisbane, Australia, the Reverend Fr. Timothy Norton, S.V.D., former superior general of the Society of the Divine Word in Australia, assigning him the titular see of Madauro.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Timothy Norton, S.V.D., was born on 24 July 1958 in Sydney. In 1985 he entered the Society of the Divine Word. From 1987 to 1989 he took part in formation abroad, in Mexico City, concluding his academic studies at the Yarra Theological Union in Melbourne and obtaining a degree in theology.

After giving his religious vows in 1990, he received priestly ordination on 2 May 1991 in Eastwood, Sydney.

From 1991 to 1996 he was parish vicar in Mexico City, after which he dedicated himself to formation in the Society of the Divine Word: director of the SILOAM Spiritual Programme (1997-1998); head of formation and prefect of the Scholastics in Melbourne (1998-2000, 2002-2004) and director of the noviciate in Sydney (2001-2002).

He served as Provincial Superior for Australia for two terms (2005-2013). Since 2014 he has been head of formation and director of the Ad Gentes Centre in Nemi, Italy.
