Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Malanje, Angola

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Luzizila Kiala of the diocese of Sumbe as metropolitan archbishop of Malanje, Angola.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Brooklyn, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Brooklyn, United States of America, presented by Bishop Nicholas A. DiMarzio.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Robert John Brennan of Columbus, United States of America, as bishop of Brooklyn.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Robert John Brennan was born on 7 June 1962 in the Bronx, New York, in the metropolitan archdiocese of the same name. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and computer science from Saint John’s University in Queens, and later completed his ecclesiastical studies at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, New York.

He was ordained a priest on 27 May 1989 for the diocese of Rockville Centre.

Since ordination, he has held the following positions: parish vicar of Saint Patrick Parish in Smithtown (1989-1994), special secretary to the three bishops of Rockville Centre (1994-2002), vicar general and moderator of the Curia (2002-2019) and parish priest of Saint Mary of the Isle parish in Long Beach (2010-2012).

Appointed titular bishop of Erdonia and auxiliary bishop of Rockville Centre on 8 June 2012, he received episcopal consecration on 25 July 2012. He also retained the post of vicar general and moderator of the Curia.

On 31 January 2019, he was transferred to the see of Columbus, Ohio, where he office the following 29 March.

 

Appointment of secretary general and members of the International Theological Commission

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Msgr. Piero Coda, lecturer in systematic theology at the “Sophia” University Institute, Loppiano, Italy, as secretary general of the International Theological Commission.
