Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Cascavel, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Adelar Baruffi as metropolitan archbishop of Cascavel, Brazil, transferring him from the episcopal see of Cruz Alta.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Adelar Baruffi was born on 19 October 1969 in Garibaldi, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the Universidade de Caxias do Sul (1988-1990) and in theology at the Pontificia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (1991-1994). He was awarded a licentiate in theological anthropology and spiritual theology from the Pontifical Theological Faculty Teresianum in Rome (2000-2001) and attended courses for seminary formators in Brazil and in Santiago del Cile (CELAM).

On 12 January 1995 he received priestly ordination and was incardinated in the diocese of Caxias do Sul, where he held the following offices: spiritual assistant and rector of the minor seminary and preparatory course; rector of the major seminary; coordinator of formators; coordinators of presbyteral pastoral care; parish vicar and member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors.

On 17 December 2014 he was appointed as bishop of Cruz Alta, and received episcopal ordination on 7 March 2015.
