Election of metropolitan archbishop of Aleppo of the Greek-Melkites, Syria
The Holy Father Francis has given his assent to the election by the Synod of Bishops of the Patriarchal Church of Antioch of the Greek Melkites of the Reverend Archimandrite Georges Masri, until now syncellus of Aleppo, Syria, as metropolitan archbishop of the same see.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. George Masri was born on 26. May 1968 in Aleppo. After attending schools in his city of origin, he entered the patriarchal seminary of Raboueh in Lebanon, carrying out his philosophical and theological studies in Harissa.
He was ordained a priest for the archeparchy of Aleppo, and held various offices: parish priest of Saint Dimitrios-Jabrie from 2000 to 2013, and spiritual director of various movements.
From 2013 to the present, he has served as syncellus of the same circumscription.
He speaks Arabic and French.
