Resignation of metropolitan archbishop of Catanzaro-Squillace, Italy

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Catanzaro-Squillace, Italy, presented by Archbishop Vincenzo Bertolone, S.d.P.

 

Appointment of bishop of Melo, Uruguay

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Pablo Alfonso Jourdán Alvariza as bishop of the diocese of Melo, Uruguay, transferring him from the titular see of Medianas Zabunioram and from the office of auxiliary of Montevideo.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Pablo Alfonso Jourdán Alvariza was born on 23 January 1964 in Montevideo. He was awarded a doctorate in Medicine in 1993 from the University of the Republic. He then carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Msgr. Mariano Soler Faculty of Theology in Montevideo, where he obtained the baccalaureate in 1995. In 2001 he was awarded a licentiate in moral theology and spirituality from the University of Navarra, Spain. He was ordained a priest on 5 November 1995 for the diocese of Minas. From 2002 to 2013 he was parish priest of San Nicolá de Bari and from 2014, San Carlos Borromeo. For more than ten years he has been responsible for biblical pastoral ministry in the diocese of Minas.

On 24 July 2018 he was appointed as titular bishop of Medianas Zabunioram and auxiliary of Montevideo, and he was consecrated the following 30 September. Within the Episcopal Conference he is in charge of the National Commission for the biblical animation of pastoral ministry and substitute delegate to CELAM.
