Resignation and appointment of bishop of the eparchy of Mar Addai of Toronto of the Chaldeans, Canada

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the eparchy of Mar Addai of Toronto of the Chaldeans, Canada, presented by Bishop Bawai Soro.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Robert Saeed Jarjis, until now auxiliary of the patriarchal archeparchy of Baghdad, Iraq, as bishop of the eparchy of Mar Addai of Toronto of the Chaldeans, Canada.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Robert Saeed Jarjis was born in Baghdad on 23 October 1973. He studied veterinary medicine at the University of Baghdad, obtaining a licentiate and a master's degree. He entered the Patriarchal Seminary in Baghdad and studied at Babel College. He was then sent to Rome, to the Pontifical Urban College De Propaganda Fide, as a seminarian, to continue his education at the Pontifical Urban University. He was ordained a priest in Rome on 27 April 2008.

He went on to study at the Pontifical Biblical Institute and was awarded a licentiate in Biblical theology in 2001. Upon return to Baghdad, he served as parish priest of Saint Mary of the Assumption and Saint Joseph’s Cathedral. Elected titular Bishop of Arsamosata and auxiliary of the patriarchal archeparchy of Baghdad of the Chaldeans, he received episcopal consecration on 18 January 2019.

He speaks Arabic, Italian, Syriac and English.

 

Appointment of ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences

The Holy Father has appointed the Honourable Professor Marta Maria Carla Cartabia, Minister of Justice of the Italian Government, as ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.

Curriculum vitae

Professor Marta Maria Carla Cartabia was born on 14 May 1963 in San Giorgio su Legnano, Italy. After graduating in law from the University of Milan, she obtained a PhD on fundamental principles and European integration from the European University Institute in Florence. She is president emeritus of the Constitutional Court and professor of constitutional law at Bocconi University in Milan. She holds various positions of editorial responsibility in scientific journals. She has numerous publications to her credit, as part of her research activity: Italian and European constitutional law, constitutional justice, the protection of fundamental rights and the relationship between the State and religious confessions. Since 13 February 2021 she has served as Minister of Justice of the Italian Government.
