Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Białystok, Poland

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Józef Guzdek as metropolitan archbishop of Białystok, Poland, transferring him from the office of military ordinary for Poland.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Józef Guzdek was born on 18 March 1956 in Wadowice, in the metropolitan archdiocese of Kraków. After passing his high school examinations, he was admitted to the Metropolitan Major Seminary of Kraków and on 17 May 1981 he received priestly ordination for the same archdiocese.

After pastoral service as parish vicar in three parishes, he was appointed as prefect of discipline in the Major Seminary of Kraków (1994-1998) and subsequently rector of the same seminary.

In 2004 he was elected to the titular see of Treba and appointed as auxiliary of Kraków. On 4 December 2010 he was transferred to the seat of the Military Ordinariate for Poland in Warszawa.

Within the Polish Episcopal Conference, he Is vice-president of the Council for the Lay Apostolate and delegate for the pastoral care of the police and scouts.

 

Appointment of bishop of Santa Rosa de Lima, Guatemala

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop José Cayetano Parra Novo, O.P., as bishop of the diocese of Santa Rosa de Lima, Guatemala, transferring him from the titular see of Tubia and from the office of auxiliary of the metropolitan archdiocese of Santiago de Guatemala.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop José Cayetano Parra Novo, O.P., was born on 5 September 1950 in Otívar, metropolitan archdiocese of Granada, Spain. In 1967 he entered the Order of Preachers of Valencia and gave his religious vows on 13 October 1974. He carried out his studies in theology, catechesis and pedagogy at the C.E.N.I.E.C. of the Episcopal Commission for Education of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, based in the archdiocesan seminary of Valencia.

In 1976 he went as a missionary to Alta Verapaz in Guatemala. He concluded his basic theological formation at the Instituto Teológico Salesiano of the Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala City. He was ordained a priest on 28 October 1979. He subsequently held, on various occasions, the office of parish priest and local superior of the Dominican community. In 1993, while he was parish priest of San Martín de Porres in Guatemala City, he founded the Fundación San Martín de Porres for the promotion of educational and social projects in the disadvantaged regions of Verapaz and Quiché. In 1994 he was awarded a licentiate in theology from the Instituto Teológico Salesiano of the Universidad Francisco Marroquín. In 2001 he was appointed as parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Santa Ana, El Salvador. From 2002 to 2012 he was again parish priest of San Martín de Porres and from 2012 to 2016, rector of the Church of San Agustín in Guatemala City.

On 11 November 2016 he was appointed as titular bishop of Tubia and auxiliary of Santiago de Guatemala, and received episcopal ordination on 21 January 2017.

 

Appointment of bishop of Sololá-Chimaltenango, Guatemala

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Domingo Buezo Leiva as bishop of Sololá-Chimaltenango, Guatemala, transferring him from the titular see of Dardano and from the office of vicar apostolic of Izabal.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Domingo Buezo Leiva was born on 12 December 1962 in Zulia, Guatemala, diocese of Zacapa. After his primary studies in Horcones, Esquipulas, he entered the minor seminary of Sololá. He subsequently undertook his studies at the Instituto Teológico Salesiano in Guatemala City. He was awarded a licentiate in pastoral theology from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome (1996-1997).

He was ordained a priest on 25 November 1988 for the diocese of Zacapa. Since priestly ordination he has held the following offices: coadjutor (1988-1989), and subsequently parish priest of San Pedro in Zacapa (1990-1995, 1998-2002); episcopal vicar for pastoral ministry (1998-2013) and parish priest of San Ildefonso in Ipala, Chiquimula (2002-2009); and parish priest of San Juan Bautista in Camotán, Chiquimula (2009-2013).

On 9 February 2013 he was appointed as vicar apostolic of Izabal, Guatemala, and was assigned the titular see of Dardano. He recived episcopal consecration on 4 May 2013.

 

Appointment of bishop of Teruel y Albarracín, Spain

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Teruel y Albarracín, Spain, the Reverend José Antonio Satué Huerto, of the clergy of Huesca, until now official of the Congregation for the Clergy.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. José Antonio Satué Huerto was born in Sesa, Huesca, on 6 February 1968. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology in the Centro Regional de Estudios Teológicos de Aragón (CRETA). He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Huesca on 4 September 1993. In 2004 he was awarded a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome.

Since priestly ordination he has served as parish vicar (1993-1998) and parish priest of San Lorenzo in Huesca (1998-2002), vicar general (2004-2009), delegate for communications media (2004-2015), judicial vicar (2004-2015), canon of the Cathedral (2006-2009), parish priest of Ibieca, Labata, Aguas and Liesa (2008-2009), parish priest of Sariñena and Lastanosa (2009-2012) and parish priest of Santo Domingo y San Martín, Huesca (2012-2015). He has also served as member of the presbyteral council (2011-2015) and from 2015 to the present, official of the Congregation for the Clergy.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Delhi, India

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Delhi, India, the Reverend Deepak Valerian Tauro, of the clergy of Muzaffarpur, former rector of Saint Albert’s College in Ranchi, assigning him the titular see of Buleliana.

Msgr. Deepak Valerian Tauro was born on 2 August 1967 in Chikmagalur, Karnataka. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the Morning Star Regional Seminary and College in Barrackpore (1986-1990) and, after spending two years in pastoral service in the diocese of Muzaffarpur (1990-1992), he studied theology in Saint Albert’s College in Ranchi (1992-1996). He was awarded a master’s degree in spirituality and counselling from the Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram in Bangalore (2002-2005). He was ordained a priest on 10 May 1996 for the diocese of Muzaffarpur.

Since priestly ordination he has held the following offices: parish vicar in Samastipur (1996-1997) and in Bettiah, Muzaffarpur (1997-1999); rector of the minor seminary of Muzaffarpur (1999-2002, 2005-2007); secretary to the bishop of Muzaffarpur (2007-2010); director of the diocesan Youth Forum (2007-2011); regional secretary of the CDPI-Bihar, Jharkhand and Andaman’s Bishops’ Council (BIJHAN) (2009-2011); rector of the minor seminary of Muzaffarpur (2010-2011); and lecturer and spiritual director of Saint Albert’s College, Ranchi (2011-2015). Since 2012 he has served as secretary of the Bihar, Jharkhand and Andaman’s Bishops’ Council (BIJHAN) and, from 2015 to 2021, rector of Saint Albert’s College, Ranchi.
