The Holy Father has appointed Bishop José Trinidad Fernández Angulo, until now titular of Cerenza and auxiliary of Caracas, Venezuela, as bishop of Trujillo, Venezuela.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. José Trinidad Fernández Angulo was born on 24 May 1964 in Mérida, in the metropolitan archdiocese of the same name, where he was also ordained a priest on 30 July 1989.
After completing his studies in the minor seminary of the metropolitan archdiocese of Mérida, he moved on to the major seminary to attend the three-year course in philosophy. He completed his theological studies at the Instituto Universitario Eclesiástico Santo Tomás de Aquino in the diocese of San Cristóbal. He was awarded a licentiate in philosophy by the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
In the metropolitan archdiocese of Mérida he has served as professor at the minor seminary, archdiocesan advisor for youth and vocations, director of studies at the major seminary, and vice-rector of the same.
In the metropolitan archdiocese of Caracas he was vice-rector of the San José seminary, vice-rector for philosophy at the Santa Rosa de Lima major seminary, director of research at Santa Rosa de Lima University, and formator, vice-rector and rector of Santa Rosa de Lima Major Seminary.
On 17 April 2014, he was appointed as titular bishop of Cerenza and auxiliary bishop of Caracas. He received episcopal ordination on the following 6 July. Since January 2018 he has been secretary general of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference.
