This afternoon His Holiness Pope Francis was admitted to the A. Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome where he will undergo planned surgery for a symptomatic diverticular stenosis of the colon.

The surgery will be performed by Professor Sergio Alfieri. A new medical bulletin will be issued at the end of the operation.
