Appointment of prefect, secretary and under-secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments

The Holy Father has appointed as prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments Archbishop Arthur Roche, bishop emeritus of Leeds, until now secretary of the same Congregation.

The Supreme Pontiff has also appointed as secretary of the same Congregation Bishop Vittorio Francesco Viola, O.F.M., of Tortona, conferring to him at the same time the title of Archbishop-Bishop emeritus of Tortona.

His Holiness has also appointed as under-secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, with episcopal character and assigning him the titular see of Rotdon, Msgr. Aurelio García Macías, until now office head of the same Congregation.

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Aurelio García Macías

Msgr. Aurelio García Marcías was born on 28 March 1965 in Pollos, Spain. He was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Valladolid in 1992. He was awarded a licentiate in philosophy from the University of Salamanca and a research doctorate in liturgy from the Pontifical Institute of Liturgy - Sant’Anselmo, Rome. He served as archdiocesan delegate for liturgy and rector of the seminary of the same ecclesiastical circumscription. Since 1 September 2015 he has served at the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments where, in 2016, he became office head.
