Resignation of auxiliary bishop of Birmingham, England

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the office of auxiliary of the metropolitan archdiocese of Birmingham, England, presented by Bishop William Kenney, C.P.

 

Appointment of bishop of Cerreto Sannita-Telese-Sant’Agata de’ Goti, Italy

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Cerreto Sannita-Telese-Sant’Agata de’ Goti, Italy, the Reverend Msgr. Giuseppe Mazzafaro, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Naples, parish administrator of San Gennaro all’Olmo and advisor to the archdiocesan Episcopal Council.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Giuseppe Mazzafaro was born on 11 February 1955 in Naples, in the metropolitan archdiocese of the same name. After leaving high school, he began working as a commercial agent, which he continued for twenty years. In the meantime, while participating in the Sant'Egidio Community and its charitable initiatives, he developed his vocational choice.

From 1995 to 2000 he prepared for the priesthood in the Archiepiscopal Seminary of Naples, and received priestly ordination on 11 October 2000.ù

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of the Basilica of Santa Maria di Pugliano, Naples (2000-2005); parish priest of Santa Caterina in Ercolano (2005-2010); and parish priest of Santa Maria dei Miracoli in Naples (2010-2014). Since 2000 he has served as regional head of youth formation in the Sant’Egidio Communities; since 2011, special secretary to the archbishop of Naples, collaborator in the charitable initiatives of the archdiocese, president of the Committee for Assistance to Religious Institutes, head of the service for the homeless, and since 2019, prelate of the Chapel of the Treasure of Saint Januarius.

Until now he has served as parish administrator of the parish of San Gennaro all’Olmo, in Naples, member of the presbyteral council, and advisor to the Episcopal Council of the metropolitan archdiocese of Naples.

 

Appointment of ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences

The Holy Father has appointed as ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy for Social Sciences the distinguished Professor Fabio Ferrucci, lecturer in sociology at the University of Molise, Italy.

Curriculum vitae

Dr. Fabio Ferrucci was born in Mirano, Venice, on 25 October 1963. After graduating in political sciences from the University of Perugia he was awarded a doctorate in sociology and social policy from the University of Bologna. He is a lecturer in the sociology of cultural processes and director of the Department of Humanistic and Social Sciences and Formation at the University of Molise. He is a member of the Doctoral College for international research in Social Work and Personal Social Services at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan. He is a member of scientific committees of various journals and publishing series. His main areas of study are the family, the third sector and social policies, on which he has published numerous contributions. In particular, he deals with policies for the inclusion of people with disabilities in work and educational contexts. Since 2018, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the National University Conference of Rectors' Delegates for Disability.
