Resignation and appointment of bishop of Colorado Springs, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Colorado Springs, United States of America, presented by Bishop Michael J. Sheridan.

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Colorado Springs, United States of America, the Reverend Msgr. James R. Golka, of the clergy of the diocese of Grand Island, until now vicar general and rector of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. James R. Golka was born on 22 September 1966 in Grand Island, Nebraska. He attended Creighton University in Omaha, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in philosophy (1985-1989). He completed his ecclesiastical studies at Saint Paul Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota, (1990-1994), obtaining a Master of Divinity. 

He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Grand Island on 3 June 1994. 

Since ordination he has held the following positions: parish vicar of Saint James parish in Kearney (1994-2000) and Holy Rosary parish in Alliance (2000-2001); parish priest of the Our Lady of Guadalupe parish in Scottsbluff (2001-2006) and Saint Patrick's parish in North Platte (2006-2016). To date, he has served as vicar general (since 2018) and rector of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral (since 2016). He is a member of the College of Consultors and the Presbyteral Council.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Wilmington, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Wilmington, United States of America, presented by Bishop William Francis Malooly.

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Wilmington, United States of America, the Reverend Msgr. William E. Koenig, of the clergy of the diocese of Rockville Centre, until now vicar for the clergy.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. William E. Koenig was born on 17 August 1956 in Queens, New York, diocese of Brooklyn. He attended the Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception in Douglaston (1975-1979) and then the seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington (1979-1983).  He later obtained a master’s degree in social work from Fordham University in the Bronx (1994).

He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Rockville Centre on 14 May 1983. 

Since ordination he has held the following offices: parish vicar of Saint Edward the Confessor parish in Syosset (1983-1986) and Saint James parish in Setauket (1986-1989); director for the Promotion of Vocations (1989-1996); director of the Office of Ministry to Priests (1990-1996); parish vicar of Saint Agnes Cathedral (1996-2000); parish priest of Saint William the Abbot parish in Seaford (2000-2009); and rector of Saint Agnes Cathedral (2009-2020). Since 2020 he has served as vicar for the clergy. He is a member of the Priest Personnel Board.

 

Appointment of bishop of Tsiroanomandidy, Madagascar

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Tsiroanomandidy, Madagascar, the Reverend Gabriel Randrianantenaina of the clergy of Moramanga, until now secretary coordinator of the Episcopal Conference of Madagascar.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Gabriel Randrianantenaina was born on 26 February 1969 in Tanambe, diocese of Ambatondrazaka, After his primary and secondary studies, in 1984 he entered the minor seminary of Ambatondrazaka. In 1989 he attended the diocesan preparatory seminary, and subsequently passed to the philosophical major seminary of Saint Paul Apôtre of Antsirabé, and in 1994 the Grand Séminaire Saint Pierre in Antananarivo.

He received priestly ordination on 31 May 1997, and was incardinated in Ambatondrazaka. In 2006, at the moment of the creation of the diocese of Moramanga, he chose to be incarnated in the new circumscription.

After ordination, he first studied for a licentiate in theology at the Université Catholique de Madagascar (1997 - 1998), and went on to served as parish priest of Saint Tammaro of Anosindrafilo, in the diocese of Ambatondrazaka (1998 - 2000). He was then awarded a  licentiate in philosophy from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome, and served as head of the Missionary District of Anosibe An'Ala (2003 - 2010) (2015 - 2016) and delegate of Vocational Pastoral Care (2003 - 2010); and rector of the Saint Jean-Marie Vianney inter-diocesan seminary in Moramanga (2010 - 2015). From 2016 until the present, he has served as coordinating secretary of the Episcopal Conference of Madagascar.

In addition to Malagasy, he knows Italian, French and English.
