Resignation and appointment of bishop of Boma, Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Boma, Democratic Republic of the Congo, presented by Bishop Cyprien Mbuka, C.I.C.M.

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the same diocese the Reverend José-Claude Mbimbi Mbamba, until now rector of the Grand Séminaire de Philosophie Abbé Ngidi and episcopal vicar for the laity.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. José-Claude Mbimbi Mbamba was born on 30 July 1962 in Kinshasa, and was ordained a priest on 28 August 1988 for the diocese of Boma.

He has carried out the following studies: diploma in GSCOM in Rwanda (1974-1980); cycle of philosophy at the Grand Séminaire de Philosophie Abbé Ngidi in Boma (1980-1983); cycle of theology at the Grand Séminaire Saint Robert Bellarmin de Mayidi, Kongo Central, completed with a bachelor’s degree in theology at the Université Catholique du Congo in Kinshasa and a diploma in philosophy and African religions at the same university (1984-1988), where he obtained a licentiate in philosophy (1992-1994); course in Italian in Rome (2003-2004); course in German in Germany (2004-2005); doctorate in philosophy at the University of Tübingen (2005-2011). In addition, he has held the following offices: seminarian sent in mission to the Saint Pierre parish, diocese of Pointe-Noire, Congo-Brazzaville (1983-1984); professor at the Petit Séminaire Saint François Xavier de Mbata Kiela in Bom (1988-1992); rector of the Université Saint Augustin de Kinshasa (1994); professor and vice-rector at the Grand Séminaire de Philosophie Abbé Ngidi (1994-1998); special secretary to the auxiliary bishop of Boma (1998-2001); appointee for the initial formation of future priests (1998-2003); secretary and diocesan chancellor (2001-2003); in Germany, pastoral collaborator in the diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart as vicar of Herrenberg and assistant to the local Italian community (2005-2012). From 2012 until now he has served as professor and since 2014 rector of the Grand Séminaire de Philosophie Abbé Ngidi; since 2014 he has also been episcopal vicar for the Laity.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Canelones, Uruguay

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Canelones, Uruguay, presented by Bishop Alberto Francisco María Sanguinetti Montero.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Heriberto Andrés Bodeant Fernández of Melo

as bishop of the diocese of Canelones, Uruguay.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Heriberto Andrés Bodeant Fernández was born on 15 June 1955 in Young, in the diocese of Salto. He was ordained a priest on 27 September 1986 and incardinated in the same diocese.

He was awarded a licentiate in theology from the Université Catholique de Lyon in 1991. After priestly ordination he served first as parish vicar of Nuestra Señora del Pilar, in Fray Bentos (1986-1988), and of San José Obrero, in Paysandú (1989). After his studies in France he held the offices of parish vicar of the Sagrado Corazón parish in Paysandú (1992); professor at the Theological Institute of the Universidad Católica del Uruguay (1992-1999); executive secretary of the Department of Vocations and of Ministries of the Episcopal Conference of Uruguay (1998-2000); director of the Diocesan Catechistic Office of Salto and diocesan supervisor of Catholic Education and University Pastoral Care, as well as member of the presbyteral council and the college of consultors (2000-2003).

On 28 June 2003 he was appointed as titular bishop of Ampora and auxiliary of Salto, and consecrated the following 17 September. On 13 June 2009 he was transferred to the diocese of Melo. In the Episcopal Conference of Uruguay he was president of the Commission for the Laity and head of the National Commission for Youth Pastoral Care.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Holguín, Cuba

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Holguín, Cuba, the Reverend Marcos Pirán, of the clergy of the diocese of San Isidro, Argentina, until now parish priest of San José and vicar for pastoral care of the Vicariate of Holguín, Cuba, assigning him the titular see of Boseta.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Marcos Pirán was born on 7 March 1961 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology in the Major Seminary of San Isidro, Argentina. He received priestly ordination on 9 December 1988, and was incardinated in the same diocese.

From 1988 to 2000 he served as parish vicar of Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro in Rincón de Milberg and parish priest of the Sagrada Familia and of San Antonio in Carapachay, Argentina. From 2000 to 2005 he was in mission in the parish of San José in Holguín, Cuba. From 2005 to 2012 he served as parish priest of Maisí in the diocese of Guantánamo-Baracoa, Cuba. From 2012 until the present he has served as parish priest of San José, and since 2020, vicar for pastoral care of the vicariate of Holguín, Cuba.
