The Holy Father, after changing the name of the circumscription of Ispahan of the Latins in Teheran-Ispahan of the Latins, Iran, has appointed as archbishop the Reverend Fr. Dominique Mathieu, of the Provincial Custody of the East and of the Holy Land of the Friars Minor Conventual, until now definitor general of his Order.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Dominique Mathieu, O.F.M. Conv., was born on 13 June 1963 in Arlon, Belgium. After his high school studies, he entered the Order of the Friars Minor Conventual.
He gave his solemn profession in 1987 and was ordained a priest on 24 September 1989. Since 2013 he has been incardinated in the Provincial Custody of the East and of the Holy Land.
Within his Order, he has held various offices: vocational promoter, secretary, vicar and provincial minister of the Belgian province of the Friars Minor Conventual, becoming delegate general after the unification with the Province of France; rector of the national shrine of Saint Anthony of Padua in Brussels and director of the relative Confraternity. He was also president of two different non-profit associations linked to the presence of the Friars Minor Conventual in Belgium, with roles of responsibility in the Catholic School of Landen.
He has served as president of the Central Europe Federation of the Friars Minor Conventual and member of the International Commission for the Economy of his Order.
He transferred to Lebanon in 2013, and in the provincial Custody of the East and of the Holy Land he served as custodial secretary, formator, master of novices and rector of postulants and candidates.
Since 20109 he has served as definitor general and general assistant for the Central Europe Federation of the Friars Minor Conventual.
He speaks French, English, Italian, Dutch and German, and has studied literary Arabic in Brussels and in Lebanon.
Appointment of coadjutor bishop of Almería, Spain
The Holy Father, in response to the request made by Bishop Adolfo González Montes of Almería, Spain, for a coadjutor bishop, has appointed Msgr. Antonio Gómez Cantero, until now bishop of Teruel y Albarracín.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Antonio Gómez Cantero was born on 31 May 1956 in Quijas, province onf Cantabria and diocese of Santander. He attended the minor and major seminary of Palencia, and was awarded a bachelor’s degree in theology and a licentiate in biblical theology in 1996 by the Institut Catholique de Paris.
He was ordained a priest in Palencia on 17 May 1981.
He carried out his priestly ministry in Palencia, holding the following offices: parish vicar and diocesan assistant of the Movimiento Junior de Acción Católica (1982-1985); diocesan delegate for youth and vocational pastoral care (1983-1992) (1996-2001); formator of the major seminary (1985-1995); international counsellor of the MIDADEN (Movimiento Internacional de Apostolado de los Niños (1992); vice-rector and professor of the minor seminary (1995-1996); rector of the minor seminary (1996-1998); rector of the major seminary (1998-2001); administrator of the major seminary and of the Priests’ House (2001-2004); parish priest of San Lorenzo (2004-2008); vicar general and moderator of the Curia (2008-2015); diocesan administrator (2015) and vicar general (2015-2016).
On 17 November 2016 he was appointed as bishop of Teruel y Albarracín and was consecrated on 21 January 2017. Within the Episcopal Conference he was a member of the Episcopal Commission for the Lay Apostolate (2017-2020) and, since March 2020, member of the Episcopal Commission for Social Communications. Since 2018 he was national coun sellor of Spanish Catholic Action.

The Holy Father has appointed as members of the Disciplinary Commission of the Roman Curia the Reverend Msgr. Alejandro W. Bunge, president of the Labour Office of the Apostolic See, and Dr. Maximino Caballero Ledo, secretary general of the Secretariat for the Economy.
