Appointment of bishop of Valdivia, Chile
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Santiago Jaime Silva Retamales, currently Military Ordinary for Chile, as bishop of Valdivia, Chile.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Santiago Jaime Silva Retamales was born on 17 June 1955, in La Calera, diocese of Valparaíso (Chile). He studied philosophy and theology at the Major Seminary of Valparaíso. He obtained a licentiate in dogmatic theology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a licentiate in sacred scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome.
He was ordained a priest on 24 October 1980 for the clergy of the diocese of Valparaíso.
He was pastor of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, teacher of sacred scripture at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, professor, trainer, vice rector and rector of the San Rafael Pontifical Seminary Major in Valparaíso.
On 16 February 2002 he was appointed titular bishop of Bela and auxiliary bishop of Valparaíso. He received episcopal ordination on the following 6 April. On 7 July 2015 he was appointed Military Ordinary for Chile.
In addition, he has served as vice president of the Synod Commission on the Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church, secretary general of the Chilean Bishops' Conference (2008-2011) and secretary general of the Latin American Episcopal Council CELAM (2011-2015). Since 11 November 2016, he has been president of the Chilean Episcopal Conference.
Appointment of auxiliary bishops of the metropolitan archdiocese of Belo Horizonte, Brazil
The Holy Father has appointed the following as auxiliary bishops of the metropolitan archdiocese of Belo Horizonte, Brazil:
- the Reverend Júlio César Gomes Moreira, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Brasília, until now parish priest of Nossa Senhora do Rosário de Fátima in Sobradinho-DF, assigning him the titular see of Tisiduo;
- the Reverend Nivaldo dos Santos Ferreira, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Belo Horizonte, until now rector of the archdiocesan shrine of São Judas Tadeu in Belo Horizonte, assigning him the titular see of Tiava.
Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Júlio César Gomes Moreira
Msgr. Júlio César Gomes Moreira was born on 18 April 1972 in Fortaleza, in the metropolitan archdiocese of the State of Ceará. He studied philosophy (1997-1999) and theology (2000-2003) at the Seminário Maior Nossa Senhora de Fátima in Brasília. He attended a course in psychology at the University of Brasília (1993-1997).
On 6 December 2003 he was ordained a priest and incardinated in the metropolitan archdiocese of Brasília, where he held the following positions: parish priest of São José in Brazlândia-DF (2004-2005); formator in the Seminário Maior Nossa Senhora de Fátima (2006-2007); rector of the Seminário Propedêutico São José (2008-2010).
In the metropolitan archdiocese of Goiânia he was rector of the São João Maria Vianney Interdiocesan Seminary and the Santa Cruz Seminary (2011-2015); parish vicar of Menino Jesus (2011-2012) and of Santo Hilário (2012-2014) and parish priest of São Leopoldo Mandic. In addition, he was a member of the Coordination Committee of the Organization of Seminaries and Institutes of Brazil (OSIB) at the national level and also of the Centro-Oeste Regional.
From 2017 until the present he has served as parish priest of Nossa Senhora de Fátima in Sobradinho-DF and coordinator of presbyteral pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Brasília.
Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Nivaldo dos Santos Ferreira
Msgr. Nivaldo dos Santos Ferreira was born on 3 June 1967 in Barbacena, metropolitan archdiocese of Mariana, Minas Gerais. He studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte. He later obtained a licentiate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
He was ordained a priest on 18 May 1996, and incardinated in the metropolitan archdiocese of Belo Horizonte, where he held the following positions: parish vicar of São Sebastião (1996); professor of the Propedeutic Seminary (1997-1998); parish priest of Divino Espírito Santo (1997-2001), Santíssima Trindade (2001-2014) and São João Bosco (2014-2018); vicar forane of São José (2010-2013); rector of the archdiocesan seminary (2013-2018); and secretary of the Episcopal Council. In addition, he was president of the Organization of Seminaries and Institutes of Brazil (OSIB).
From 2018 until the present he has served as been rector of the São Judas Tadeu archdiocesan Shrine, and for several years he has been professor at the Institute of Theology of the Pontificia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte.
