Resignation and succession of bishop of Cheju, Korea

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Cheju, Korea, presented by Bishop Peter Kang U-il.

He is succeeded by Bishop Pius Moon Chang-woo, until now coadjutor bishop of the same diocese.

 

Appointment of maestro conductor of the Pontifical Musical Chapel Choir (Sistine Chapel Choir)

The Holy Father has appointed as maestro conductor of the Pontifical Musical Chapel Choir (Sistine Chapel Choir) the Reverend Msgr. Marcos Pavan, until now interim maestro director of the same Sistine Chapel Choir.

Curriculum vitae

Born in São Paulo (Brazil) on 23 October 1962, the Revered Marcos Pavan was ordained a priest for the diocese of Campo Limpo on 29 June 1996.

He graduated in law from the University of São Paulo in 1985 and was enrolled in the Brazilian Bar Association. He went on to study philosophy at the then-Centre for Advanced Studies of the Legionaries of Christ in Rome, and theology at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas.

He gained a solid artistic and musical education, having studied piano and music theory, vocal technique and Gregorian chant, as well as choral conducting. He also performed in concerts and made recordings for radio and television.

He joined the Pontifical Musical Chapel as assistant to the Pueri Cantores in 1998, and on 10 July 2019 he was entrusted with the post of interim maestro conductor of the Pontifical Musical Chapel Choir (Sistine Chapel Choir).
