Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Merauke, Indonesia

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Petrus Canisius Mandagi, M.S.C., of the diocese of Amboina, as metropolitan archbishop of the archdiocese of Merauke, Indonesia.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Piracicaba, Brazil

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Piracicaba, Brazil, presented by Bishop Fernando Mason, O.F.M. Conv.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Devair Araújo da Fonseca as bishop of the diocese of Piracicaba, Brazil, transferring him from the titular see of Uzali and the office of auxiliary of the metropolitan archdiocese of São Paulo.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Devair Araújo da Fonseca was born on 1 February 1968 in Franca, in the diocese of the same name in the state of São Paulo. He studied philosophy at the Augustinian Institute of Philosophy in Franca (1992-1994) and theology at the Centro de Estudos da Arquidiocese de Ribeirão Preto (CEARP), affiliated to the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo - Faculdade de Teologia Nossa Senhora da Assunção (1995-1998). He was then awarded a licentiate in sacred theology with a dogmatic focus at the Pontifical Gregorian University (2000-2002). He also attended the course for seminary formators at the Faculdade Dehoniana in Taubaté (2007-2008).

On 20 December 1998 he was ordained a priest and incardinated in the diocese of Franca, where he held the following positions: chaplain of Carmel of Saint Teresa and Blessed Miriam; parish vicar of São Benedito, Menino Jesus and Sant'Ana in Franca; parish priest of São Crispim in Franca and São José in Orlândia; vice rector of the Nossa Senhora do Carmo diocesan seminary in Jaboticabal; rector of the Nossa Senhora do Patrocínio diocesan seminary of Franca; vicar forage of the Santa Gianna deanery; diocesan pastoral coordinator; and supervisor at the School of Theology, the Diaconal School and the Diocesan Bulletin.

In addition, he served as professor at the Nossa Senhora do Carmo Institute of Philosophy and Theology of the diocese of Jaboticabal, the João XXIII Institute of Theology in Franca and the Centro de Estudos da Arquidiocese de Ribeirão Preto (CEARP); and secretary and then president of the Organisation of Seminaries and Institutes of Brazil (OSIB Sul 1) of the Brazilian Episcopal Conference.

On 10 December 2014 he was appointed titular bishop of Uzali and auxiliary of São Paulo, receiving episcopal ordination on 1 February 2015. In the metropolitan archdiocese he was episcopal vicar of the Brasilândia Region.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Kraków, Poland

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary of the metropolitan diocese of Kraków, Poland, the Reverend Robert Józef Chrząszcz of the clergy of the same archdiocese, until now episcopal vicar of the Jacarepaguá vicariate in the archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro and parish priest of São Pedro do Mar in Rio de Janeiro, assigning him the titular see of Forconio.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Robert Józef Chrząszcz was born on 7 October 1969 in Wadowice, in the metropolitan archdiocese of Kraków. After attending the Franciscan Minor Seminary in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska he entered the major seminary of Kraków and completed his philosophical-theological studies at the Pontifical Theological Academy of Kraków (1988-1994).

He was ordained a priest on 14 May 1994 for the same metropolitan archdiocese, where he served as parish vicar of the Zesłania Ducha Świętego (1994-1999) and Matki Bożej Różańcowej (1999-2005) parishes.

In 2005 he came to Brazil as a fidei donum priest for the archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, where he was parish administrator (2006-2008). He was appointed parish priest (2008-2019) of the Santa Luzia parish, and later also vicar forane of the II Deanery of the Vicariato Jacarepaguá vicariate (2009-2014).

He is currently episcopal vicar of the Jacarepaguá vicariate, parish priest of São Pedro do Mar in Rio de Janeiro and coordinator of the archdiocesan Commission for Altar Servers and Acolytes.
