Transfer of bishop of the eparchy of Sohag to the epaychal see of Minya, Egypt

His Beatitude Ibrahim Isaac Sedrak, Patriarch of Alexandria of the Copts, with the assent of the Synod of Bishops of the Coptic Church and after informing the Apostolic See, has transferred Bishop Basilios Fawzy Al-Dabe from the eparchial see of Sohag to that of Minya, Egypt.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Basilios Fawzy Al-Dabe was born on 16 December 1956. In 1978 he was awarded a degree in art from the University of Cairo. He studied philosophy and theology at the Seminary of Maadi and was ordained a priest on 28 March 1980 for the eparchy of Minya of the Copts. In the subsequent years he served as parish priest in Maghaga and Minya, and for twenty-five years he was director of the Catholic schools of the eparchy.

On 14 June 2019 his election as bishop of the eparchy of Sohag was published; he received episcopal consecration on 3 August of the same year.

The Synod of Bishops of the Patriarchal Church of Alexandria of the Copts has elected as bishop of the eparchy of Sohag, Egypt, the Reverend Msgr. Thomas Halim Habib, currently advisor at the Apostolic Nunciature in Malta, to which the Holy Father had granted his assent.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Thomas Halim Habib was born in Sohag, Egypt, on 6 July 1963. Before entering the Seminary, he received a degree in law and exercised the profession of lawyer in Egypt. He received priestly ordination on 27 March 1994, and was incardinated in the Patriarchal eparchy of Alexandria of the Copts.

He concluded the institutional cycle at the Pontifical Urban University and was awarded a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Oriental Institute. He was made responsible for the Coptic community in Rome.

After his studies in the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, on 13 June 1998 he entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See. He has served in the Pontifical Representations in Honduras, Rwanda, Kuwait, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Algeria, Syria and Malta, first as secretary and then as advisor.

The Synod of the Patriarchal Church of Alexandria of the Copts, Egypt, has accepted the resignation from the office of bishop of the Patriarchal Curia presented by Bishop Youhanna Golta, titular bishop of Andropolis.
