Resignation of metropolitan archbishop of Taipei, Taiwan, and appointment of new metropolitan archbishop and apostolic administrator of the Kinmen or Quemoy Islands and Matzu

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Taipei, Taiwan, presented by Archbishop John Hung Shan-chuan, S.V.D.

At the same time the Pope has appointed Bishop Thomas An-Zu Chung of Chiayi as archbishop of the same metropolitan see and apostolic administrator of the Kinmen or Quemoy Islands and Matzu.

 

Resignation of metropolitan archbishop of La Paz, Bolivia, and appointment of new metropolitan archbishop

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of La Paz, Bolivia, presented by Archbishop Edmundo Luis Flavio Abastoflor Montero.

The Pope has appointed as metropolitan archbishop of the archdiocese of La Paz, Bolivia, Bishop Percy Lorenzo Galván Flores, transferring him from the territorial prelature of Corocoro.

Bishop Percy Lorenzo Galván Flores was born on 10 August 1965 in Tomás Frías, territory of the diocese of Potosí. During his childhood his family transferred to San Lucas, in the archdiocese of Sucre. During his high school studies he entered the seminary of Sucre (1984), where he attended the preparatory year. He continued his studies in philosophy and theology in the “San José” National Seminary of Cochabamba (1985-1991). He was ordained a priest in the Cathedral of Sucre on 18 July 1991. He was awarded a licentiate in biblical theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University (2001).

He has served as parish vicar in Villa Serrano (1991-1992) and in Padilla (1992-1993), and parish priest in Padilla, Alcalá and El Villar (1993-1995), and held the office of episcopal vicar of the pastoral zone of “La Frontera” (1996-1998). From 2001 to 2005 he was rector of the “San Cristóbal” archdiocesan seminary of Sucre. On 8 September 2005, he was appointed as vicar general of the archdiocese of Sucre for three years, at the end of which he was given the task of preparing the fourth Archdiocesan Synod. From 2005 to 2013 he was parish priest of the “San José” parish in Sucre, canon of the cathedral, head of the Ecclesiastical Museum and member of the economic, presbyteral and pastoral boards of the archdiocese.

He was elected prelate bishop of Corocoro on 2 February 2013 and received episcopal ordination the following 1 May.
