Appointment of coadjutor of Peoria, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has appointed as coadjutor bishop of Peoria, United States of America, the Reverend Louis Tylka, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Chicago, currently parish priest of the Saint Julie Billiart parish in Tinley Park and president of the presbyteral council of the same see (Illinois).

Reverend Louis Tylka

The Reverend Louis Tylka was born on 26 May 1970 in Harvey, in the archdiocese of Chicago, Illinois. He attended Saint Joseph’s Elementary School in Homewood (1976 to 1984), and the Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights (1984 to 1988). He then attended Niles College Seminary, obtaining a bachelor’s degree at Loyola University in Chicago (1989 to 1992). He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake Seminary at Mundelein in Illinois (1992 to 1996).

He was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Chicago on 18 May 1996. Since priestly ordination he has held the following roles: parish vicar of the Saint Michael parish in Orland Park (1996 to 2003) and of the Saints Faith, Hope and Charity parish in Winnetka (2003 to 2004); parish priest of the Mater Christi parish in North Riverside (2004 to 2014) and of the Saint Julie Billiart parish in Tinley Park (since 2014), and president of the presbyteral council (since 2014).
