Resignation of bishop of Port-de-Paix, Haïti, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Port-de-Paix, Haïti, presented by Bishop Pierre-Antoine Paulo, O.M.I.

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Port-de-Paix, Haïti, the Reverend Charles Peters Barthélus, of the clergy of Port-au-Prince, currently vice-rector of the Notre-Dame d’Haïti Major Seminary.

Reverend Charles Peters Barthélus

The Reverend Charles Peters Barthélus was born on 14 November 1970 in Marchand-Dessalines, diocese of Les Gonaïves. After his secondary studies he followed, from 1989 to 1990, the preparatory year course. In 1990 he entered the Notre-Dame d’Haïti Major Seminary where he attended the first cycle of philosophy in Cazeau, from 1990 to 1992, and then the second cycle of theology in Turgeau, from 1992 to 1996.

He was ordained a deacon on 25 January 1998 and a priest on the following 7 June, and was incardinated in the archdiocese of Port-au-Prince.

From 2011 to 2014 he continued his studies at the Institut Catholique of Paris, obtaining a licentiate in liturgy.

He has held the following roles: parish vicar of the Sainte-Anne parish in Port-au-Prince (1998-2001); administrator of the Sainte-Thérèse parish of Pétion-Ville (2001-2011); studies at the Institut Catholique in Paris (2011-2014); and from 2014, vice rector of the Notre-Dame d’Haïti Major Seminary.

 

Appointment of bishop of Fukuoka, Japan

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Josep Maria Abella Batlle, C.M.F., currently auxiliary of the archdiocese of Osaka, as bishop of the diocese of Fukuoka, Japan.
