The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Belleville, United States of America, presented by Bishop Edward K. Braxton.
The Pope has appointed as bishop of Belleville, United States of America, the Reverend Michael G. McGovern, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Chicago, currently episcopal vicar ad interim of Vicariate 1, vicar forage of the Deneary I-C and parish priest of the Saint Raphael the Archangel parish in Old Mill Creek.
Bishop-elect Michael G. McGovern
The bishop-elect Michael G. McGovern was born on 1 July 1964 in Chicago, in the archdiocese of the same name. He attended Christ the King parish primary school in Chicago (1978) and Saint Ignatius College Prep secondary school in Chicago (1982). He obtained his baccalaureate in philosophy at Loyola University Chicago in Chicago (1986) and studied at DePaul University School of Law (1988-1990). He entered the seminary and completed his ecclesiastical studies at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake seminary in Mundelein, Illinois (1990-1994).
He was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Chicago on 21 May 1994.
After priestly ordination, he carried out the following tasks: parish vicar of the Queen of the Universe Parish in Chicago (1995-1998), Saint Mary Parish in Lake Forest (1998-1999) and Saint Juliana Parish in Chicago (2003-2004); assistant chancellor (1998-1999) and vice chancellor (1999-2000); delegate of the archbishop for extradiocesan and foreign priests (2000-2002); parish priest of Saint Mary Parish in Lake Forest (2004-2016) and Saint Raphael the Archangel parish in Old Mill Creek (since 2016); vicar forane of Deanery A of Vicariate I (since 2007) and acting episcopal vicar of Vicariate I (2020). He was a member of the college of consultors (2009) and the presbyteral council (2001).
Appointment of auxiliary of the archdiocese of Przemyśl of the Latins, Poland
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Krzysztof Chudzio, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Przemyśl of the Latins, Poland, as auxiliary of the archdiocese of Przemyśl of the Latins, Poland, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, currently parish priest of Jasienica Rosielna, assigning him the titular see of Marazane.
Bishop-elect Krzysztof Chudzio
The Bishop-elect Krzysztof Chudzio was born on 25 June 1963 in Przemyśl. After his high school examinations he was received in the major seminary of Przemyśl of the Latins and was ordained a priest on 14 June 1988 for the same diocese.
After priestly ordination he served as parish vicar in the parish of Saint Adalbert in Krosno (1988-1989), and was later sent to the diocese of Kamyanets Podilskiy of the Latins in Ukraine where he held various offices: secretary to the diocesan bishop Jan Olszański, chancellor of the episcopal Curia and organiser of the work of the Curia (1989-2005).
Returning to his native diocese, he served as director of the archdiocesan museum (2005-2006) and later spiritual father of the major seminary and lecturer in the theological institute in Przemyśl (2006-2015).
He is currently pastor of the parish of Jasienica Rosielna and honorary canon of the Cathedral Chapter of Przemyśl.
He is fluent in Russian, Ukrainian and knows basic English.
