Promulgation of Decrees of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, 24.01.2020

On 23 January 2020, the Holy Father Francis received in audience His Eminence Cardinal Angelo Becciu, prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. During the audience, the Holy Father authorized the same Congregation to promulgate the Decrees regarding:

- the martyrdom of the Servants of God Benet from Sant Coloma de Gramanet (né Josep Domènech Bonet) and two companions, of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, killed in hatred of the faith in Spain between 24 July and 6 August 1936;

- the martyrdom of the Servants of God José María Gran Cirera and two companions, professed priests of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and seven companions, laypersons, killed in hatred of the faith in Guatemala between 1980 and 1991;

- the heroic virtues of Blessed Giovanni Tavelli da Tossignano, of the Order of Gesuati, bishop of Ferrara, born in Tossignano, Italy in 1386 and died in Ferrara, Italy on 24 July 1446;

- the heroic virtues of Joaquim Masmitjà i de Puig, canon of the Cathedral of Girona, founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, born in Olot, Spain on 29 December 1808 and died in Girona, Spain on 26 August 1886;

- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God José Antonio Plancarte Labastida, diocesan priest, founder of the Institute of the Sisters of Mary Immaculate of Guadalupe, born in Mexico City, Mexico on 23 December 1840 and died in Mexico City, Mexico on 26 April 1898;

- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God José Pio Gurruchaga Castuariense, diocesan priest, founder of the Congregation of the Parish Helpers of Christ the Priest, born in Tolosa, Spain on 5 May 1881 and died in Bilbao, Spain on 22 May 1967;

- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Marie-Antoine from Lavaur (né François-Léon Clergue), professed priest of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, born in Lavaur, France on 23 December 1825 and died in Toulouse, France on 8 February 1907;

- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Maria Do Carmo of the Holy Trinity (née Carmen Catarina Bueno), professed nun of the Order of Discalced Carmelites, born in Campinas, Brazil on 25 November 1898 and died on 13 July 1966 in Taubaté, Brazil.
