The Holy Father has appointed Rev. Alexandre Joly, vicar general of Rouen, as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Rennes, France, assigning him the titular see of Privata.
H.E. Msgr. Alexandre Joly
The Rev. Alexandre Joly was born on 9 October 1971 in Saint-Malo, in the archdiocese of Rennes. In 1989, after completing his secondary studies, he entered the seminary of Paray-le-Monial and, in 1993, was sent to the Pontifical French Seminary in Rome, where he attended courses at the Pontifical Gregorian University, obtaining a doctorate in theology in 2000. He also studied for a year at the University of Oxford in Great Britain.
He was ordained a priest on 28 June 1997, and incardinated in the archdiocese of Rouen.
He has held the following positions and ministries: student in Rome and Oxford (1997-2000); parish vicar of Notre-Dame de Rouen Centre and diocesan chaplain of students (2000-2003); parish priest of Saint-Jacques in Mont-Saint-Aignan (2003-2013), director of the diocesan catechesis service (2006-2008); secretary general of the diocesan synod of Rouen (2008-2010); director of the diocesan service for the liturgy and the sacraments (2011-2018); and episcopal vicar for the laity in ecclesial missions and parish priest of Saint-Paul in Quevilly-Couronne (2013-2017). Since 2017 he has served as vicar general of Rouen.
Appointment of auxiliary of Versailles, France
The Holy Father has appointed the Rev. Bruno Valentin as auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Versailles, France, assigning him the titular see of Vaison. Msgr. Valentin is currently episcopal vicar of the same diocese.
H.E. Msgr. Bruno Valentin
The Rev. Bruno Valentin was born on 22 January 1972 in Nancy in the diocese of the same name. After his secondary studies he obtained a licentiate in economics from the University of Paris-IV-Dauphine.
He entered the seminary of Versailles and, in 1995, was sent to the Pontifical French Seminary in Rome, where he studied ecclesiastics at the Pontifical Gregorian University, obtaining, in 2001, a degree in theology, specializing in ecclesiology.
He was ordained a priest on 29 June 2000 and incardinated in the diocese of Versailles.
He has held the following positions and ministries: student in Rome at the Pontifical Gregorian University (2000-2001); parish vicar of Trappes and diocesan delegate for the pastoral care of young adults (2001-2004); parish priest of Chatou (2004-2012); head of the diocesan formation service (2007-2012); dean of Le Vésinet (2007-2010); parish priest of Montigny and Voisins-le-Bretonneux, episcopal vicar of the decree of Rambouillet and Member of the Episcopal Council (since 2012); Episcopal Vicar of the deanery of Maule-Montfort-Houdan (since 2013); diocesan delegate of the Œuvre des Campagnes (since 2014); and episcopal vicar of the deanery of Saint-Quentin (since 2015).
