Resignation of metropolitan archbishop of Cotabato, Philippines, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Cotabato, Philippines, presented by His Eminence Cardinal Orlando B. Quevedo, O.M.I.

The Pope has appointed as metropolitan archbishop of Cotabato, Philippines, H.E. Msgr. Angelito R. Lampon, O.M.I., transferring him from the titular see of Valliposita and the apostolic vicariate of Jolo.

H.E. Msgr. Angelito R. Lampon, O.M.I., was born in M’lang, Cotabato, on 1 March 1950. After carrying out his novitiate with the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in Tamontaka, Cotabato, he studied philosophy at the Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City, and theology at the Loyola School of Theology, again in Quezon City.

He was ordained a priest for the Oblates of Mary Immaculate on 26 March 1977.

He has exercised his priestly ministry in the following offices: deputy parish priest in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat and in the Cathedral of Cotabato (1977-1978); member of staff of the Cotabato City Seminary (1979-1981); studies in SIADI (South Asian Interdisciplinary Institute), Intramuros, Manila (1981-1982); director of postulants and scholastics of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (1988-1992); and counsellor general of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate at their general administration in Rome (1992-1997).

On 21 November 1997 he was elected as titular bishop of Valliposita and apostolic vicar of Jolo, and was consecrated on 6 January 1998.

Within the Episcopal Conference of the Philippines he was president of the Commission for Interreligious Dialogue (2011-2017), and he is now president of the Commission for Ecumenical Affairs.

 

Resignation of bishop of Ávila, Spain, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Ávila, Spain, presented by H.E. Msgr. Jesús García Burillo.

The Pope has appointed the Rev. José María Gil Tamayo, general secretary of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, as bishop of the diocese of Ávila.

H.E. Msgr. José María Gil Tamayo was born on 5 June 1957 in Zalamea de la Serena, Badajoz. He attended the Seminary of Mérida-Badajoz and graduated from the faculty of theology of the University of Navarra. He was ordained a priest on 7 September 1980 and incardinated in the archdiocese of Mérida-Badajoz.

After practicing his ministry in a number of rural parishes for nine years, he graduated in information sciences, again from the University of Navarre. In 1992 he was appointed as director of the delegation of the Media and of the Information Office of his diocese. From 1998 to 2011 he was director of the Secretariat of the Commission of the Social Communication Media of the Spanish Episcopal Conference. Since 20 November 2013 he has served as general secretary of the same Conference.

 

Appointment of titular bishop of Dumio and auxiliary of the archdiocese of Trujillo, Peru

The Holy Father appointed as titular bishop of Dumio and auxiliary of the archdiocese of Trujillo, Peru, the Rev. Fr. Timoteo Solórzano Rojas, M.S.C., currently parish priest of the parish of “Santiago Apóstol” in the territorial prelature of Caravelí.

Fr. Timoteo Solórzano Rojas was born on 24 January 1969 in Chucos, diocese of Huari. After completing his primary and secondary studies in Huantar, he entered the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart and carried out his philosophical and theological studies in Lima (1988-1996). He attended specialization courses for religious education in Guatemala. He carried out his novitiate in the Dominican Republic. He gave his first profession on 15 August 1990 and his perpetual vows on 15 August 1998. He was ordained a priest on 9 January 2001.

He held the following positions: parish vicar in the archdiocese of Trujillo (2001-2002); parish priest in the archdiocese of Ayacucho (2003-2004); parish priest in the archdiocese of Lima (2005-2007); parish priest of the parish of “San Pablo” and vicar forane in the archdiocese of Trujillo (2007-2010). From 2011 to 2018 he was director of formation in the Seminary of the Province of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart in Peru and a parish collaborator in the Church of “San Felipe” in Lima.

He is currently parish priest of the parish of “Santiago Apóstol” and promoter of the parish college in Acari in the territorial prelature of Caravelí.
